Tavira region holiday villa: Tavira (Central)

We had a lovely holiday in Tavira - our 6th visit to the town and the best time so far. The villa is in a very good location, quiet yet close to the town centre and river with all its bars and restaurants. The garden and pool were a real bonus with comfortable loungers and pool lillos. We used the covered outside table and chairs for every meal, in fact we never sat inside for the whole week. The villa is very spacious and well equipped. Parking was easy although a car is not necessary. The island of Tavira is beautiful and well worth a visit if you can drag yourself away from the pool.

We have been taking villa holidays for about the last 10 years, so are reasonably well placed to make comparisons. If like us, you don't want to rent a car, and want somewhere central, then this villa is ideal. About a 30 minute taxi ride from Faro airport, the villa is situated in the heart of Tavira, and is literally a two minute walk to bars and restaurants. And yet, for being so central, the villa is in a quiet pedestrianised location. The beautiful pool and garden area is totally enclosed and is not overlooked. The pool is a good size and is salt water which I found preferable to chlorine. All rooms indoors are spacious and the living area has a pool table. There is an outside area for French boules or petanque, which we played for the first time and had great fun. Our one wish would have been for A/C in the bedroom as it did get a bit hot some nights and the ceiling fans only helped so much. Tavira itself has many restaurants and bars, most restaurants specialising in fish and seafood. There is a decent Chinese restaurant and two Indian restaurants. If you are Indian food lovers as we are, I'd recommend the Punjab Tandoori which served fantastic food although the setting and the building itself was nothing remarkable. There is a nice beach which can be reached by a short ferry ride from the centre of Tavira and costs about 4 euros return. If your looking for a quiet relaxing holiday in very pleasant surroundings, without the hassle of getting taxis into town every night, this should be a definite possibility for you.
