The Snowdonia national park includes the second highest mountain in Britain as well as miles of uncrowded sandy beaches. There is abundant wildlife, and sporting activities include swimming, surfing, fishing, golf, shooting, climbing and sailing. Rich in history the area includes some of Britain's most scenic medieval castles within an hour's drive. The village of Aberdovey retains a traditional charm, and friendliness, set at the mouth of the Dovey river and looking west across Cardigan Bay towards Ireland. It has several pubs, an award winning hotel-restaurant as well as a range of shops for all needs. Visitors can enjoy public tennis courts, a links golf course, sailing club, fishing expeditions from the jetty and riverboat tours.
