Beautifully refurbished 2 bedroomed village house with lots of original features and bags of character, situated in the historic part of this wonderful Spa town. The house is comfortable stylish and spacious with a large well equipped sunny dining kitchen.The lounge with a beamed ceiling wood burning stove for cosy winter nights, flat screen TV and a patio doors leading to a beautiful walled garden where you can enjoy barbecues or just relax with a glass of wine. The house has two tastefully decorated bedrooms with shuttered windows and a bathroom with a rainwater shower. When you arrive you will find a welcome pack full of goodies and lots of information on the area recommended tapas bars, restaurants offering local cuisine and walking routes. The town is a traditional Spanish town with white washed houses and steeps of medieval architecture.Within 5 minutes walk there are many wonderful restaurants and lively bars on the plaza for great nights out.

The Spa town of Alhama De Granada has lots of stunning Medieval architecture... it is the real Spain. Fantastic tapas bars and local restaurants on two pretty squares within easy walking distance from the house. With its famous Los Tacos limestone gorge with breath taking views you can walk through it, to the beautiful lake and bathe in the stunning Arabic bathes. There is a local market with its fresh fruit, basket wear, and local produce. The area is surrounded by stunning scenery and is ideal for walking or cycling, it is famous for wild flowers and birds. The fabulous Lake Bermejales is just 15 minutes away, with its beach like shores where you can swim, windsurf,sail, canoe, or just enjoy the sun. There are 4 local out door pools all with lovely surrounding gardens to relax in. Within walking distance there are the popular natural hot springs that flow into four pools to bathe in.

Alhama De Granada is an ideal base for visiting the cities of Malaga or Granada.Within 50 minutes to the beach at Torre Del Mar or a little further to the sandy coves of Nerja or Almunecar. Granada city with its abundance of bars,shops and of course the amazing Alhambra Palace is just 40 minutes away. In Granada the famous ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are a must during the winter months and an there is an excellent golf course .

A perfect, real Spanish town

A lovely week spent in a real Spanish town - you could walk to restaurants, bakery, bars, supermarket/local market from the house as well as having a spectacular gorge right on your doorstep for walks and bikerides. With two active children there was lots to do and a good location for getting to the coast or Granada.

The holiday cottage is in a great location in a lovely village. The cottage had great facilities, the owners were very welcoming. The decor was great and had a very traditional feel to it. The patio area was very tidy and got the sun all day long and it was very hot (June), thankfully the property owners have installed a sun umbrella. The initial meeting place was confusing so it would be good to be specific about where to meet for the keys etc.

If anything the cottage is nicer than the pictures show and the outdoor seating area is lovely in the sun. The owners were accomodating and helpful and could not be faulted.

Our only reservations were that the town of Alhama de Granada was not as busy as we had hoped. We were there at the end of April so it may improve but on the few nights we went out in the town we were not very impressed by the bars or restaurants available and many were closed.

I also do not recommmend relying on the local supermarket as it is a bit small and has sporadic opening hours.

The town is beautiful but remember how much cooler it is in the mountains! We used the log fire and electric heaters most evenings even if it had been glorious sunshine in Granada or on the coast.

The absolute highlight of our visit was a day skiing in the Sierra Nevada. We turned up without appropriate clothes or skis and rented everything. The season ends mid-May and we went on 1 May (which is a public holiday) and it was lovely skiing and not very busy.

The Arabic baths and thermal pools are both worth a visit - one luxurious and one open air and free!

We had a car and definitely used it a lot. Alhama is a perfect mid-way between the coast, Granada and Malaga but the mountain roads make driving slower than you would expect.
