Photos and Description of this St Ives holiday cottage Sleeps 5, in three large bedrooms, steps away from shops, beach and harbour

A classic 110 year old former fisherman's cottage, with sea views, situated in the 'Downalong' area of St Ives, on a pedestrian only quaint cobbled street, just off one of the most photographed streets in this gem of a Cornish town, and is within the conservation area. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet lane behind the main area for shops/restaurants and harbour front therefore no steep hills to climb, common in St Ives! The cottage has been totally refurbished over the years and offers accommodation over 4 floors, walking into the large lounge/diner with two fireplaces and a beamed ceiling, steps down to the large kitchen/breakfast room with beamed ceiling with toilet off and outside courtyard, steps up from the dining room to two large bedrooms again with beams, one double and one set up as a large single that has sea views, bathroom with shower, up to a large attic room with twin beds and far reaching views over St Ives Bay. A quirky, quaint but modern cottage, typical St Ives!

KITCHEN (AND A NOTE RE PARKING FACILITIES): PARKING As with most of the cottages/houses in the lower central part of the town, there is no parking, however, there is a long stay (weekly) car park behind Porthgwidden beach on 'the island' and I would say, anywhere that has parking will generally be at the top of the town, and a steep climb, or on the outer reaches, so it's a bit of a trade off. Personally, I would much rather be down in the harbour area with all the restaurants and beaches minutes away! The car park is also a few minutes walk away. KITCHEN Lower ground floor. Kitchen/breakfast room with open beamed ceiling, quarry tiled floor, Bosch electric fan oven and grill, electric hob, microwave, flat screen LCD TV with Free view and integral DVD player, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine, table and chairs currently set up for four, for children meals or snacks, separate WC and back door to covered courtyard area for hanging washing and storing boards etc, wheelie bin and back alley leading down to Fore Street.

GROUND FLOOR: Main entrance from pedestrian only lane in to small porch area, steps up to large lounge/dining room with open beamed ceiling and real leather chocolate and cream sofa and chairs, real flame/coal enclosed gas fire, TV with Freeview, DVD, CD/Radio, small library of books, second cast iron Victorian fireplace in dining room, second dining table for 5 people.

FIRST FLOOR AND ATTIC ROOM: Main bedroom with cast iron and brass double bed and beamed ceiling, Main bathroom with cast iron bath and shower over, single bedroom with pretty cast iron bed, tongue and groove colour washed and beamed ceiling and halogen spots and sea views over roof tops across the bay, steep stairs to attic bedroom with colour washed ceilings and halogen spots and two cream metal single beds, wide ranging views across St Ives bay and beyond. All of the above rooms are tastefully decorated and have original art work hanging on the walls.

Other Activities: Painting, Galleries, Museum, gourmet food, relaxing!

comfortable cottage in good location

DaisyB Central Scotland
Review Submitted: November 11, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Very accurate description on web site of cottage and very prompt responses from owner before the holiday. We received a friendly welcome on arrival. Property was well equiped, comfortable, clean and attractive, full of quirky pieces of seaside art and the like. The cottage was well situated for the various beaches, shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. The views from the single bedroom were stunning. St Ives itself was wonderful, such a laid back atmosphere but with plenty to do if you love the sea and pottering around. We especially liked the beach by the Tate and the coastal path around St Ives. There is also a lot to do in the area around St Ives - far too much for one week. No wonder people come back to that part of Cornwall year after year. We hope to be back soon.

A Great place for the whole family

The Triplets Derbyshire
Review Submitted: September 8, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Our experience was very good. The property met / exceeded our expectations, across all aspects. e.g. Location, facilities, layout, etc. In fact, it proved to be an ideal retreat for the whole family (3 kids and 2 adults). In terms of location, it's perfect to explore the whole of St Ives, especially the beaches.

The property was clean, tidy and overall well maintained. Furthermore, there was enough space for the 5 of us, unlike, some smaller properties within St Ives. The kitchen and covered back yard (great drying area) are ideal for active familes.

Debbie was most helpful, as was Jennie, who met us on our arrival.

We will be recommending the property to our close friends and family.

Given the central location of the property, it is ideally placed for all attractions and activities. Tip - drive your car up the little lane (Bunkers Hill?) to off load your bags, then pop it round to the Island Car park ( we opted for a 7 day pass - Good VFM ). When leaving, it's worth driving your car up the little lane again, to load your car up with any heavy bags. We did this prior to 8am, to miss the masses who are also leaving on Sat am. By doing this, it was quick and easy, plus we managed to get a space back in the Island car park. Then at 10am, all we had to do, was to drop off the smaller remaining items. So we were able to enjoy the morning looking round the shops, etc.

There are a number of good cafes and restaurants, 2 worth a mention: Porthwiggin Beach Cafe (great location, food and service) and Blas Burger (friendly service and good simply food - great for the whole family). We would certainly go back to both and Salmons Leap.

One very small point, the property is marketed for 5, however, there is only 4 chairs around both dining tables.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for your top review, and just to answer your point re the dining chairs, there are 4 chairs around the kitchen table for people to have quick meals, cup of tea etc, and 4 chairs plus a chair in the corner (for ease of access at other times) as an extra for the 5th person in the dining room for more formal meals. Hope to see you back again soon.

Fantastic cottage

Hannah Bennett Cambridge
Review Submitted: June 22, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I stayed at the cottage for one week with my boyfriend and father in mid-June and we had an absolutely fantastic holiday.

The cottage was exceptionally clean and well equipped and was spread over four floors meaning we all had our own space.

All the beds were very comfortable - even for my 70 year old father who suffers from a bad back said he was very comfy.

The cottage sits in a fantastic location only a stones throw away from the main harbour and a couple of minutes from more beaches. All the beaches are clean and safe, perfect from young children, sub bathers or dog walkers.

We took our dog who had a brilliant time. He was welcome on the beaches before 8am and after 7pm which meant lots of playing in the sea on evening walks.

There are a multitude of restaurants; a lot of which offer very reasonable and very nice set price menus, and a massive amount of cafes for day time tea and coffee with great views.

Debbie was a fantastic host in the build up to our stay and offered all the advice we could possibly need. Whenever I emailed her I got very quick responses, and the girl that met us at the property to let us in and hand over keys was very flexible and friendly.

This property would be great for a wide variety of occupants. It's perfect for couples or a group of friends, families or extended families. The only thing I would say is that if older travellers are in the party then the attic room may not be suitable as the stairs are very steep.

Salmons Leap

Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
No problems with the cottage - parking is the main issue in St. Ives with many adopting to leave their cars in long stay car parks without moving - leave your spot and you may have to find another place when you return! The area, as expected, is very beautiful.

We have just returned home having spent the most idyllic week in an absolutely gorgeous cottage in St. Ives. Salmons Leap cottage turned out to be the perfect location for our stay in Cornwall. You really are just a few feet away from several beautiful beaches and the local shops and pubs are literally just around the corner. The cottage itself is spacious, clean and the owner Debbie has made every effort to provide all that is required to make this feel like an home from home. Set over four floors it allows for sea views from the two back bedrooms. So now home and feeling the holiday blues we feel its only right to let Debbie and other potential visitors know what a truly lovely place this is.
