First class house with fantastic terrasses

Smileroom Lerum, Sweden
Review Submitted: November 5, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We rented the house during 2 weeks in June 2009. Our intention was to be there during 1 week; but we found the house so nice so we prolonged the visit for another week.

We found the description on the web-site to be correct; however we think that the pictures and the text did not 100% reflect the offer: In reality almost everything was better than described in the homepage. The interior design has been done with good taste and the house is very functional. The kitchen was very well equipped with first class machinery and chinaware. The renovation of the house has been done with attention to detail, to quality and with very generous budget. The 4 terrasses were just wonderful: one for private meal outside the kitchen, one big "partyterrass" close to the kitchen and livingroom, one at first level for relaxation and another one at second level - all of them with panoramic view of the valley, all of them with sun almost the whole day.

The property was very clean and proper when we arrived. The owner and her local representative in the village provided excellent service and served us in a very friendly way.

The village is situated in the middle of the famous wine districts in southern Rhone valley, so if you are interested in wine, food, Provence you could hardly find a better place to stay. - The only thing to think about is that the house has many levels and stairs so it will not work for people that have problems to walk etc.

The house is excellent for two families or for a big family with teenagers - but also, like for us, for one couple that appreciate comfort and village life. We got real value for money!

A highly recommended village house

Franzy Sheffield
Review Submitted: June 26, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
We have rented many properties in Provence over the past 25 years and it is rare for one's expectations to be exceeded. But this was the case with Les Quatre Terraces. We loved the clean stylish ambience and the excellent facilities and we found the owner a pleasure to deal with. We have never before had such a well-equipped kitchen in a rented house; this was a joy for my wife who loves cooking and we were able to bring back produce from a bustling market (the one in Vaison on Tuesdays is particularly recommended) cook it and sit on the main terrace to dine as we watched the sun go down. Dining out offers many choices too. One little gem, if you like fairly spicey food, is a small family restaurant, La Mosaïque, in Vaison la Romaine. In the village of Gigondas, L'Oustalet is outstanding. You probably need to book a table for the evening but you may be able to drop in at lunchtime for the more econmically priced 'menu du jour'. The wines of the area are second to none. Gigondas, Seguret, Rasteau, Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise, Chateauneuf; ..(the list goes on) are all within a few miles, not to mention Sablet itself. You can admire the nearby Dentelles de Montmirail which change with the changing light, or if you are a walker you can enjoy them at close quarters. Don't miss the opportunity to drive to the summit of mighty 'Le Mont Ventoux' (intrepid cyclists like to 'rise to the challenge' of pedalling to the summit, but you've got to be fit!). There's so much to see in the area ..from the magnificence and culture of Avignon to the charms of the many 'villages perchés'. It's also worth having a full day out driving via Arles to the Camargue if you have the time.
I would have no hestation in recommending Les Quatre Terraces and if we stay in that area agin it would be our first choice.

Really living in a French village

The cyclists Nanaimo, BC Canada
Review Submitted: June 16, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
When we were looking for a rental in Provence we wanted a village in which we could find all the essentials without it being "touristy" and a house that we'd be really comfortable in - with a little luxury! We found exactly what we were looking for in Quatre Terrasses in Sablet. We adored the village and the house was perfect. We were two couples and a baby (grandparents, parents and a year old baby). Louise was extremely helpful and arranged for a crib and high chair for the baby. Linda and Paul, who live just opposite and were the contact people for the house, were lovely to deal with. The house is large and airy - there are two sitting rooms, the bedrooms are comfortable, the terraces are all delightful, the views are enchanting, the kitchen is well-equipped and the bathrooms are large and well-appointed. The garage was convenient because we had bikes that we wanted to secure (and mom, dad and grandpa!! all made it up Mt. Ventoux). The village was marvellous. By the time we left we had fallen in love with it - fresh meats, bread, vegetables and wine were within a two minute walk - and everyone we dealt with in the village was patient and helpful. There's also a cafe, a restaurant and a marvellous take-out pizza place (the mushroom and eggplant/aubergine one is to die for). The library has internet (if you happen to have need of the wired world instead of the gentle easy-going one that you relax into in Sablet...) and you can get the International Herald Tribune at the tobbaconist (just in case you care about the outside world). The walks and cycling around Sablet are utterly charming - and the view back to the village lifts your spirits. It's an easy drive to so many other delightful places (though none that made us wish we were anywhere but where we were). We would all love to return, and we wouldn't change a thing.
