In the heart of the Quirós Valley, nestled between the tall peaks of the Cordillera Cantabrica, south of the elegant city of Oviedo, you’ll find Hotel Rural Fuentes de Lucia. The Quirós Valley is one of the most beautiful areas of Asturias. The region boasts magnificent views with soaring mountains, dense chestnut forests and traditional villages. Fuentes de Lucía in the tiny hamlet of Faedo is a perfect base for an escape from the real world and a way to enjoy nature at its finest. Fuentes de Lucía is located on the GR 207 , a long distance hiking trail that takes you across the mountain tops to the village of Pedrobayo where you can find a generous serving of Fabada Asturiana, the rich Asturian bean stew. Hiking possibilities in this area are numerous, from challenging peaks to gentle river walks. In the main house, you’ll find a cozy living room with antique furnishings and comfortable couches to sink into and enjoy a cup of tea in front of the fire.

Casa Rural Fuentes de Lucia is located 50 minutes from the center of Oviedo in the Quiros Valley. We are located on the Senda del Oso, the Bear Trail, a long distance footpath that goes from Oviedo to Barzana or Terverga. Other great hiking trails in the area such as a branch of the Camino de Santiago. Challenging rock climbing 5 kilometres from our hotel. The Picos de Europa is just two hours by car. Somiedo, to the west, is just one hour drive. Lots of great places to dine - fabada and wild game. Great beaches only one hour by car. Or why go anywhere - just enjoy the beauty and peace that surrounds Fuentes de Lucia.

Notes: Fuentes de Lucia has three buildings on the property. The main house, an old farmhouse was restored in 2008 has a reception area, living rooms, bar, dining room, kitchen, WC. The newer building, independent of the farmhouse, contains the 8 bedrooms. The third building has been designed for yoga and tai chi workshops but can also be used as a dance hall and a play room for rainy days. There is plenty of outside areas to enjoy a cup of tea on a sunny day. Your hosts Judy Colaneri and Juan Carlos Fuentes, are the founders of Spanish Steps, a tour company that leads groups of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. They have a wealth of experience in the hospitality and tourism industries and in-depth knowledge of the surrounding areas. Come and visit us in this oasis of tranquillity in the heart of Asturias.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay with Juan Carlos and Judy. The meals were delicious and abundant. Breakfast was more that what you normally find in a Spanish breakfast. The bedrooms are very spacious with interesting antiques and wonderful views. The bathroom was also spacious and had plenty of hot water and a large bathtub to stretch out in. Lots of light. We shall return.
