About this property

Scottish Highlands Invergordon Ross-Shire By NC500 Route Short Breaks All Year

Osprey Cottage is well situated for access to the NC500 (North Coast 500 Route) whether you are travelling by Car or Bike.
The location of Osprey Cottage allows you to do sections of the route on different days to fully take in the scenery.

Rentals at "Osprey Cottage" usually run from Saturday to Saturday. However if you would prefer an alternative start date, this would be possible with the only requirement being that your stay is a minimum of 3 nights.

'Osprey Cottage' is situated by the shores of the Cromarty Firth adjacent to the B817 between Saltburn and Barbaraville. This spacious detached property, adjacent to owners' home, has been renovated and furnished to a high standard.
The property is just a few meters from the shoreline. It makes it the ideal place for bird watching. The owners also have a small bird 'hide' available for guests to use with beach access. The many tourist attractions in the area are all within a short drive. Beaches, distilleries, golf courses, castles and RSPB reserves.

The accommodation comprises an entrance hall with slate floor, a well equipped kitchen / dining room with beamed ceiling and slate / oak flooring. Spacious living room, partly open plan with beamed ceiling and oak flooring with an outlook over the Cromarty firth. Double bedroom with 5' bed, beamed ceiling and oak flooring. Shower room with toilet, hand basin, walk in shower and oak flooring.

Nature and bird watching:
The local area is rich in both bird and animal life, the Cromarty Firth is a haven for migrating wildfowl and waders in the spring and autumn. The firth also plays host to bottle-nose dolphins and various dolphin watching trips set sail from Cromarty and Inverness. They can also be viewed from Chanonry Point on the Black Isle.

From April to September Ospreys fish along the foreshore of Nigg Bay adjacent to the cottage. The owners also have a small bird hide at the bottom of their garden that you are free to use when you are staying at the cottage.

The RSPB also have bird hides located at Nigg and Udale bays.

Break Away
We had a relaxing stay at Osprey Cottage just what we needed. The cottage was very well equiped with everything you need and has a small garden which has a table and chairs ideal for sitting out with your tea/ coffee in the morning listening to all the different birds that visit the bird table. Unfortunately there isn't wifi at the cottage but we had read this in previous reviews and brought our portable mini router so it was not a problem for us. The owners Allan & Shona live close bye and are on hand if you need them. Osprey Cottage is a little gem of a cottage and would definitely recomend a stay there. Evelyn & Bob 25/06/23

I have lived in the area most of my life and have lived in my house which is adjacent but detached from Osprey Cottage for more than 35 years.
I am a self employed joiner and work locally.

Why they chose this property

The cottage was originally a substantial stone outbuilding and at the time there were very few self catering cottages in the local area. As we have always chosen self catering holidays we decided to give it a go and renovate and extend the cottage to make it what it is today.
