Photos and Description of this Lot holiday cottage A delightful place to stay in the most peaceful part of the town

The cottage sleeps 2 people in style and comfort just moments away from all that Gourdon has to offer. The small medieval town of Gourdon (pop. 5000), close to world famous Rocamadour, is situated in one of the richest historical regions in France. The area offers the biggest concentration of prehistoric sites in the world. Gourdon is a perfect base for those who love to explore. The region boasts vineyards, châteaux, caves, medieval history, canoeing, golf, horse riding, hot air ballooning and much more. The nearby boulevard offers shops, restaurants and a Saturday market, making it ideal for those who love to idle away the hours in old winding streets or drinking coffee in pavement cafes. The region's gastronomic treats taste so much better with only a short stagger home ahead! This is a real opportunity to immerse oneself in French life and rub shoulders with the hospitable Gourdonnais. The cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished, with attention given to every detail.

Gourdon is in the heart of the Lot and near to the Dordogne, offering countless opportunities for exploration. Rocamadour, just 40 minutes' drive away, is one of the must-see gems of this area and deservedly the second most visited religious site in France. Cahors, the departmental capital that sits on the river Lot, has winding medieval streets and one of the best markets in the region. Downstream, the river is also home to the vineyards that produce the Cahors appellation wines, renowned for their depth and body. The region has a remarkable number of prehistoric sites, medieval towns, châteaux and gardens, all set in breathtaking scenery. Gourdon's lido opens June - Sept and the local lake offers swimming and walking. Bike hire is available and there are tennis courts too. 15-30 mins away it is possible to canoe on the Dordogne or to play golf at Souillac or go horse riding. Delightful!

Our stay at La Grange was wonderful. We arrived by train and Giles picked us up in the car. The cottage is very stylish and well equipped and only a couple of minutes walk from shops and restaurants. We were blessed with fabulous weather and even nicer hosts - Giles and George were very helpful and hospitable. The country side around Gourdon is perfect for cycling and walking (bike hire shop 10 mins walk) which make it an idyllic place for a holiday.

Simply charming

We spent a wonderful holiday in Gourdon. La Grange was one of the most beautiful places we ever stayed in. It was spacious, very tastefully decorated, had all mod cons combined with the charm of a traditional French cottage. The garden was equally beautiful and every morning we awoke to the smell of fresh lavender. George and Giles were great hosts, warm, welcoming and always helpful. Gourdon itself is a lovely little town and the surrounding countryside is simply charming, perfect for long walks. We had a very relaxing holiday and La Grange was a real little gem. Would I recommend this property to a friend? Absolutely!!!

A beautiful holiday cottage in a lovely town.

As I drive for a living, it was wonderful to find a holiday cottage within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Gourdon.
The property is a short walk up a hill from the shopping area, although we used the free parking area at the top of the hill and walked down.
The cottage is a converted building attached to the owners own property but the stone construction and thoughtfulness of the owners make it feel very secluded and private.
The cottage is clean and simply decorated while the furnishings and equipment show off the owners flair for design and the kitchen equipment provides everything you might need should you wish to cater for yourselves, (although with the restaurants so close we rarely did). The access, (we stayed in 2007), was over an uneven stoney path through the garden and might pose a problem for the less sure-footed but with a torch and care this just added to the quaintness of the property.
The personal touches put in by the owners, from the welcome food basket on arrival to the luxurious towels and bed linen made this a holiday to remember and a great base for exploring a lovely part of France.
I would recommend this property whether you are going to explore or just want a holiday where you can hang up the car keys and have everything you might need on your doorstep.
