This house has recently had extensive modernisation. It has a large fully enclosed walled garden with lawn, large pergola and tiled terrace, a fountain, orange and lemon trees and a barbecue with sink and granite work surfaces. Overlooking this is a luxurious 5 person jacuzzi with a terracotta tiled roof. At this garden level the house has a games room, kitchen, laundry and toilet. On the floor above is the main living area with a kitchen, toilet, shower room, two lounges and a large interconnecting dining room. Both the lounge and dining room have wood burning stoves set into marble fireplaces and the two lounges share a south facing long balcony with magnificent mountain views. Up the wide stairs to the next floor is a landing off which are four double bedrooms and a bathroom. Continuing up the stairs to the top floor is a landing, two double bedrooms, one very large bedroom and a shower room. The house is furnished with new beds and antique furniture.

This romantic old house is situated in the walled town of Prats de Mollo with its narrow lanes, fort, church, bouledrome, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, butcher, supermarket, tennis courts and swimming pool. It is surrounded by mountains and has innumerable walking trails from easy to major difficulty. The Spanish border lies at 10 km on the adjacent Col d’Ares and leads to the lovely towns of Camprodon and Beget and to the ski resort of Valter 2000. Alternatively, descend the valley to the picturesque towns of Ceret, or Collioure on the coast where Picasso and Matisse painted. The Cathar castles are a short drive away and there are scores of vineyards to visit and sample the wine. To see more about Prats de Mollo please see their website.

Highly recommended character house

We rented this excellent house in late summer 2008 primarily as a base for a walking holiday in the French and Spanish Pyrenees.

The house met all the advertised features being comfortable, well equipped and furnished in a French rural style. There was ample space in all departments, the two sitting rooms being a real bonus, although most of our time was spent on the terrace with it's magnificent views of the mountains and shade for those that wanted it.
Located only a short walk from the village centre, this is an ideal location for those wishing to soak up the tranquil atmosphere of a small French village.

There are things of interest in the village and immediate area but I would recommend use of a car. It would be a shame not to make use of the easy access to fantastic mountain scenery where we found walks ranging from an easy stroll to those of a more challenging nature.

In summary, a highly recommended very comfortable and well located old character house set in a quiet mountain village.

A most relaxing holiday home

This is a holiday home with much to commend it. We enjoyed every minute there. The house is very spacious, with high ceilings, excellent for providing a cool environment in summer. The terrace is wonderful, as is the walled garden, with wonderful views of the Pyrenees. The hot tub is excellent. From the house we took several excellent walks up into the surrounding hills. There is also a good spa village close by. Altogether the house is a great escape for a family holiday.
