Gaucin is an ancient mountain village, dramatically perched on the crest of the Sierra del Hacho, 630 meters above sea level. Gaucins steep winding streets, hidden alley-ways and whitewashed houses reflect its Moorish heritage. Situated on the migratory route between Europe and Africa, rare birds can be sighted passing on their journey to and from Africa, in the spring and autumn. The countryside is a delight to botanists, walkers and painters. There are Neolithic Caves to explore near Cortes de la Frontera, a Roman sulphur bath below Manilva, and riverside walks to be had along the River Genal where you can find crystal clear pools for bathing in or picnicking by.
Gaucin is ideally located for day visits to the historic town of Ronda (37kms) the beautiful beaches of Tarifa (88kms) on the Costa de la Luz , or Marbella (67kms) and Estepona (39kms)on the Costa del Sol. Futher afield there are the wondrous historical sights of Jerez (145kms) and Seville (245 kms).
