Superbly relaxing holiday in a beautiful location

It is always a stress when picking somewhere to stay for a holiday, especially if its left a little late, and the first impressions when turning the car into the driveway or down the road and seeing the place for the first time can make or break a holiday. Thankfully at Las Golondrinas this was a superb experience. After being warmly welcomed by Pete & Jill, they were more than happy to share their knowledge of the area and give us a thorough guided tour of their lovely house. Even warning us of the neighbours potentially noisy dogs, which was a bit of a worry, but as it turns out they were pretty well behaved.
All the rooms were spotless and beautifully prepared (more than we needed), the kitchen being especially well specified and stocked with more than enough basic ingredients. The master bedroom on the first floor is lovely and light and stays at just the right temperature, with stunning views out over the garden and the fields. Outside there was a nice terrace, perfect for al fresco dining and a good sized pool for taking a relaxing dip or floating around on a lilo and enjoying the sun. It was amazing to lie on the loungers and watch the eagles and vultures fly high overheard, hunting in the fields.
As there were only two of us there were a few rooms that went unused, but the space is more than enough for the maximum occupancy listed. If we needed any indoor entertainment, a well equipped games room (table tennis, mini-pool table, darts and a myriad of board games) and Sky TV met our needs more than adequately.
In terms of location, it was perfect and easy to find. The drive from Malaga was incredibly simple although if you take the main motorway there are toll charges to pay. If we hadnt stopped at the supermarkets on the way it would have taken a little under and hour and half. Jimena de la Frontera provided a good spot for a couple of meals, most notably at El Ventorrillero, just off the main square. It also provided a great starting point for some good walks in the national parks.
Within easy reach were all the beaches of the Western Costa Del Sol, and our firm favourites the beaches along the coast near Tarifa, with great waves and beautiful scenery.
All in all the villa was perfect, a great feeling of home in amongst wonderful scenery. As other reviews have said, a place as good as this really allows you to fully let go and enjoy your holiday. I would imagine we shall be returning again!
