The historically protected Fornalutx is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It lies on the north west coast of Mallorca, about three kilometres from Sóller. Surrounded by orange plantations, almond trees, olive groves and the impressive Tramuntana mountain range with the highest mountain on the island, the Puig Major. Numerous ancient steps and houses, bear witness to the medieval Moorish origins of this mountain village that has cultivated and preserved its charm over the centuries. A good third of the approximate 650 inhabitants are foreigners, some of whom have lived here for years and have become a mainstay of village life. Those who come here have an interest in culture and quite often artistic motives, drawing inspiration from the landscape and the architectural scenery. They come to explore the hiking trails and for the good conversation, to enjoy the peace and quiet and to revel in the amazing play of light.
