Carcassonne offers numerous places to visit. It hosts 2 UNESCO monuments: the old medieval city and the canal dute midi. Both are at a few minutes walking.
You can walk to the old medieval castle, to visit or just to have a drink or dinner in one of the numerous restaurant.
Three times a week enjoy the cute farmers market. You just have to walk 5 mn and stop for a while and taste a delicious local fresh white wine before you come back to your french home!
At 30 mn with a car you can visit Limoux and its famous sparkling wine, the Cathares Lastours castles, the abyss of Cabrespine, the cave of limousy, Lagrasse.
At 1 hour by car: the village of Minerve, Narbonne and its beaches, Rennes le chateau whose story inspired the Da vinci code, Toulouse, Montpellier, Perpignan, the beautiful Collioure, Pezenas, Beziers, Sète and its beaches...
Nimes (1h30), Andorra and its duty free. All the Cathares Castles.

Sports:
If you are a jogger, you will love to run along the Aude river on the heart round or along the Canal du midi. You can also walk, go for a picnic. It is at 7 mn walking from the house.
There are various tennis courts and squash.
When we are not travelling with our bicycles they are at your disposal: one man, one women, one 8 to 10 years old. Bicycling is a nice way to discover the town and its surroundings.
Hiking is just beautiful all around Carcassonne.
If you want to have fun you can pedal boat on the Lac de la Cavayere (5 km) or go from tree to tree in the funny park 'accro branches'.
Rent horses for one hour or two or three days for a horse hiking is very nice. You discover the vineyards, and the beautiful stoned villages.
Ski:
You can go skiing in the morning and come back at night as do many children with the french skiing school in winter.
The main places are Font Romeu, Les Angles, Andorra, Puyvalador, Portet Puymorens and many others...
Golf:
For golfer, we lend you our golf equipment: two half set, one for man, the other for woman and two caddies. Tell us before coming.

By the motorway you can reach the Toulouse's famous palmola golf course (1h30) or the other courses around the town.
Saint Cyprien hosts a golf course on the beach (1h) and Castres (45 mn).
