Chez Martin is a lovely Charentaise farmhouse set in a large garden surrounded by beautiful countryside. The house is ideal for family holidays and makes a great base for walking, mountain biking, golfing, horse riding, canoeing, fishing and sight seeing. The house has been lovingly converted and features two beautiful, large sitting rooms with wood burning stoves and exposed beams. The farmhouse has a large garden with an above ground pool and decked area, there is also a stone built barbecue and eating area surrounded by various fruit trees. Le Vieux Cerier is a little hamlet with a bar, 5 minutes drive from the quiet village of Champagne Mouton, where you will find all the essentials you will need. We are also only a 20 minute drive from Ruffec and Confolens, both being pretty towns with a full range of shops, bars and restaurants. The Charente Lakes are within 30 minutes and Condac, on the Charente River is also only a 20 minute drive, where you can swim, canoe, BBQ or just relax.

Nearest Airport: Limoges at 70 Kilometres
Nearest Ferry: St Malo/Caen at 450 Kilometres
Nearest Train: Ruffec at 20 Kilometres
Nearest Beach: beach at 40.0 Kilometres

Chez Martin is very well situated for the capital of the area, Angouleme, with its ramparts and winding medieval streets, great shops, bars and restaurants. There is a fab water park there for the kids too, Nautilus, which is worth a visit. The lakes are within a 30 minute drive where you will find swimming,fishing and beaches, perfect for a picnic. Confolens, a very pretty medieval town which sits on the banks of the River Vienne , and hosts a music festival in August, is a 25 minute drive away, whilst Ruffec is also about a 20 minute drive where the TGV for Paris stops. If golfing is your thing there are several good courses in the area, all within driving distance . La Rochfoucauld has a beautiful château, where you can dress up and walk around the grounds in medieval clothes. Futuroscope, Vallee des Singes, Oradour Sur Glane, to name but a few make great days out, or alternatively you can just relax in the peaceful setting of Chez Martin after that long and leisurely lunch!

Additional information about rental rates

  • Once a booking has been received by email or by phone, we will send you a booking form which you will need to sign and return to us with a deposit of 20% of the total of the holiday cost. The remainder will be due 8 weeks prior to departure, together with a breakage deposit of £200. This will be returned to you by post once the property has been inspected. If your booking is within 8 weeks of departure the full balance will be required with the booking form.
  • If you are going to travel with Brittany Ferries, please let us know as our guests will be able to obtain a discount of approximately 10 -15%. We will let you have details at time of booking

The pool is an above ground pool which is circular and is 5.49m and 1.3m deep, there is a small decked area with sun loungers and some deck chairs.

An absolutely fabulous holiday - a perfect house for us staying with children. It was great that the kids could run around the excellent garden while the grown-ups could relax in the shade with a glass of wine in the lovely tranquil setting. The kitchen was thoughtfully equipped with all the bits and pieces we needed which was great. The gite was also very clean and exactly as described. Comfort wasn't lacking and there was plenty of space to relax in the cosy rooms. This was the first time we visited the Charente region and it we will definitely visit again! The local countryside is very pretty and thankfully not too far from the airport, which was a bonus. Thanks for a brilliant holiday!
