Photos and Description of this Haute-Garonne holiday farmhouse Architect restored 4 Bedroom House sleeps 9 with large pool.

Our house is a lovely four bedroom, two large bathroom, traditional Gascon farmhouse, which has been fully restored with a mix of traditional and modern design. The house sits on a ridge with panoramic views of the Pyrénées and Gascony landscape, and is set in seven acres of land. There is a small wood for picnics and exploring. A large open grange provides shelter for parking or boules. We have an extra large pool of 8m x 15m for those who like to swim lengths. The pool has a shallow end for children, and a deep end for diving. The property is located in an unspoilt, rural and peaceful location with easy access to the mountains for walking, climbing, skiing or water sports. Toulouse, Pau, Carcassone, Lourdes and the Marciac international jazz festival are all within an easy driving distance.

The thriving market town of St.Gaudens, capital of the Comminges, is 30 minutes from the house. It has an extensive range of shopping from E. Leclerc (hypermarket), to traditional local shops. This region is a delight for the gastronome, with specialities of Cassoulet, confit de canard, foie gras and Madarin red wine. The Gorge de la Saves offers a delightful walk with plenty of picnic spots, and there are numerous small villages, local markets and family-run restaurants to explore. To the north lies the medieval town of Auch, an important stop on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. It is a great place to spend a day wandering the old streets. And to the South, below St.Gaudens, you enter the Midi-Pyrénées where the landscape changes dramatically from the rolling green fields of Gascony to the steeply wooded foothills of the Pyrénées and on up into the dramatic peaks of the mountain range that rises to form the border with Spain.

Notes: Bedroom 1: King-size bed, 2 wardrobes, view to the Pyrénées. Bedroom 2: King-size bed, built in wardrobes, dual aspect, fireplace. Bedroom 3: 2-3 single beds, ideal for children, dual aspect, built-in wardrobes. Bedroom 4: double bedroom, ground floor.There is a travertine terrace with a pergola. A decking walkway leads to the large pool (8m x 15m), can be illuminated at night. An open-sided barn provides a shaded area off the terrace, and outside lights allow 'alfresco' dining in the evening. There are a variety of herbs that can be used for cooking. A large grange on the other side of the house is ideal for playing table tennis and boules. The land around the house is very extensive and has been landscaped between the house and the pool. Areas to the right, and rear, of the house have yet to be formally landscaped but have wonderful views.At the moment we are awaiting broadband connection, which is due in the area shortly. There is a small pond to the front of the property.

Travel: A car is essential. The nearest airports are Toulouse (BA, Air France, EasyJet - 1 hour), Lourdes/Tarbes (Ryanair - 1 hour), Pau (Air France, Ryanair - 1.5 hours) and Carcassone (Ryanair - 1.75 hours). From Calais it is a 10.5 hours drive - with children, we split the journey across 2 days and explore. The high-speed TGV train runs direct from Paris to Toulouse. During summer months there is a French motorail service direct from Calais to Toulouse.

Distances: The nearest Boulangerie is an 8 minutes drive. Two pretty market towns, L'Isle en Dodon and Boulogne-sur-Gesse, are within 15 minutes drive. They both have banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, bars and a local market. Toulouse is less than a hour's drive away for metropolitan life. The international jazz festival in Marciac is 1 hour away (August). The Pyrénées are an hours drive. For the children, we are within an hours drive of two 'Treetop' adventure centres.Biarritz, on the Atlantic coast, is about a two and a half hours drive from the house. If you are in search of water sports then within an hour you can reach the foothills of the Pyrénées where you will find canyoning, kayaking and rafting. Skiing is within one hour and half.

There will be a welcome pack on arrival at the house.

The owners of this farmhouse have pulled out all the stops here. Huge comfortable bedrooms, bathrooms to die for and an infinity pool which seems to go on forever. We especially love the quirky pieces of art scattered throughout the house.
The house sits high on a hill surrounded by rolling countryside, with stunning panoramic views. It is tranquil, idyllic and makes you feel on top of the world.
Have been there twice and thoroughly recommend it.

My family and I stayed in Desbarats last june. Definitely the nicest rental house we have stayed in. More of a stylish home with a luxury pool.
Lovely and tranquil. Friendly locals in the nearby villages.
Our best times were balmy evening barbeques and boules on the drive.The kids loved the nearby gorge and local flumes.

Desbarats was a complete delight. The description on the website is very accurate and does not exaggerate how lovely the place is! The house has loads of space and is a clever mix of contemporary design and rustic period details. One unexpected pleasure was watching the distant Pyrennes turn a deep red at the end of the day whilst lying by the huge and stylishly designed pool - certainly the best pool we've ever come across in a holiday house.Tucked away up a little country road with barely another building in sight, it is a beautiful and peaceful place to stay.
