Travel:
A car is essential. The nearest airports are Toulouse (BA, Air France, EasyJet - 1 hour), Lourdes/Tarbes (Ryanair - 1 hour), Pau (Air France, Ryanair - 1.5 hours) and Carcassone (Ryanair - 1.75 hours). From Calais it is a 10.5 hours drive - with children, we split the journey across 2 days and explore. The high-speed TGV train runs direct from Paris to Toulouse. During summer months there is a French motorail service direct from Calais to Toulouse.
Distances:
The nearest Boulangerie is an 8 minutes drive. Two pretty market towns, L'Isle en Dodon and Boulogne-sur-Gesse, are within 15 minutes drive. They both have banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, bars and a local market. Toulouse is less than a hour's drive away for metropolitan life. The international jazz festival in Marciac is 1 hour away (August). The Pyrénées are an hours drive. For the children, we are within an hours drive of two 'Treetop' adventure centres.Biarritz, on the Atlantic coast, is about a two and a half hours drive from the house. If you are in search of water sports then within an hour you can reach the foothills of the Pyrénées where you will find canyoning, kayaking and rafting.
Skiing is within one hour and half.
