Arundel is a beautiful, historic medieval market town, nestling between the stunning countryside of the South Downs & the refreshing coast of West Sussex. Arundel's home to one of the few remaining inhabited Castles in the country, & was recently used, in part, as Windsor Castle in the feature film 'The Young Victoria' due to hit cinema screens March 09. The town is a truly unique place & has something of interest for everyone. It has a very friendly atmosphere & an eclectic mix of inhabitants. It offers peace & tranquility yet at the same time, the vibrant hub of a town where there is so much to do, all on your doorstep. Arundel is home to it's popular Festival in Aug/Sep where open air concerts are staged in & around the Castle grounds & many artists display their work in the homes of the townsfolk & in shops for visitors to browse or buy. The Goodwood Festival of Speed & Revival Meeting are held under 10miles away, as are The Chichester Festival Theatre, golf & horse racing events.

Notes: We are fairly flexible as to the basis we let this property on (ie: self catering or with provisions) and so please feel free to discuss your preferred requirements with us. It is possible to go rod fishing on the adjacent riverbank (no rod licence nec). Whilst this property, from the outside, looks like the large detached home that it is, we designed the inside for ourselves and as such it has few rooms. However, the rooms that it has, are well planned and offer the luxury of space & light. With this in mind, the property really does only suit single or double occupancy and no more. It is a perfect base for someone wishing to spend some quality time solo, or meeting up with friends in Arundel. Equally, it is ideally suited to a couple seeking a romantic getaway, in a 'boutique-hotel' style setting, with the entire place all to yourself. We hope that you choose to stay at The Old Sail Loft soon and that you enjoy yourself so much that you will want to visit again and again! Thank you.

Luxurious, restful getaway

Review Submitted: November 13, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We loved our stay at the Old Sail Loft. Linsi and Ben were very welcoming and attentive, keen to ensure that we had the best possible experience in their beautiful home. The property is immaculately presented and provided ideal accommodation for a few days of well-needed relaxation. The fixtures, fittings and furnishings are all very tasteful and of an extremely high standard and very well maintained. Everything worked exactly as it should. For a private residence type rental property this is pretty much as close to a five star hotel experience as you are likely to get. Particularly generous was the invitation to use anything from the well stocked larder/pantry and drinks cabinet. The kitchen was extremely well equipped -the Aga being a very nice country touch. The house is brilliantly located with great views of Arundel, the castle being within easy walking distance. Arundel itself is a perfect hub from which to explore all the other attractions of the the South Downs and Sussex, with beautiful countryside, the coast etc.all within easy reach. Overall, a wonderful find and a most enjoyable time. Many thanks!
Owner's Response: Praise indeed - Thank you! Another fabulous review, and very descriptive, which is so helpful to reassure future potential guests as to what they can expect from our home on the riverbank in Arundel. We always feel so biased in our description of the ambience of this place, so we are delighted to hear that it lives up to, and sometimes exceeds, expectations. No trick photography, no exaggerated descriptions or poetic licence, and no false promises. What you see in our listing, is exactly what you get, and more. We are so pleased that our guests notice and enjoy, all the extra touches and extra effort we go to, to make sure they leave this place having loved their stay here, and hoping to visit here again sometime. We are blessed yet again, with the best of guests. This place seems to attract the nicest, possible people, and that we are very thankful for. Book with the complete confidence of knowing you will have the best possible experience here that you could ever have.

Fabulous home, designer level decor but never detrimental to relaxation - what could be more ideal? Perfect riverbank setting in beautiful old town of Arundel.. Anyone thinking of both a relaxing and romantic break could do no better than chosing the Old Sail Loft
Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for your complimentary review, & for taking the trouble to post it on the website for others to see as a valuable point of reference. We take it as a huge accolade (with your outstanding expertise in interior design), that you liked our choice of decor & furnishings, and that you were still able to be comfy-cosy without losing the edgey, stylistic atmosphere that we have created in this place. Also thank you for being fabulous guests here too - please come again!

The Old Sail Loft is a stunning, period property with a comfortable yet contemporary feel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to friends looking for a relaxing break. The location is perfect with lots to see and do in Arundel and only a short drive from the beach and other nearby towns. The property has everything you could ask for in terms of facilities with and with plenty of indoor and outdoor living space. Linsi and Ben were terrific hosts and did everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay! So, if you are looking for a romantic weekend or just a relaxing break... but are fed up with staying in hotels, The Old Sail Loft is definitely a 5* alternative.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much! It is very reassuring to hear back such positive feedback from our discerning guests, especially those that have travelled the world and are used to experiencing the very high standards set by some of the best 5* Hotels, to be compared to them is a massive compliment and we are very grateful indeed. We have been incredibly fortunate that our visitors have all been 5* guests too and treated The Old Sail Loft with the care & respect that it deserves, as if it were their own, which we truely appreciate.

Please do spread the word & visit us again soon!

Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We decided we would like a break from our hectic life style & chose the Old Sail Barn for its location and the enthusiastic repsonse we received from the Lindsay.

The detached property was exceptional inside and out. We were warmly greeted by Lindsay and Ben who are the most caring and considerate rental owners we have had the pleasure to met. They have made a fantastic job of converting the barn into a very comfortable and stylish home for two.

On entering the property we found a wonderfully large country kitchen, with all the mod cons you would want. The American fridge freezer was stuffed with goodies for us to work our way through and the Aga gave us the tastiest toast!

The barn has been designed for two and the space and light were perfect for a relaxing retreat. Lindsay has gone to a great deal of care to present the Old Sail to match the standards of a boutique hotel. From the choice of bedlinen to the fluffy towels, we were amazingly impressed with the attention to detail throughout the property, Lindsay & Ben are both very creative people and this is reflected in the property.

The living space and the large balcony upstairs did not disappoint, with fantastic weather we were able to relax inside and out, we watched the river go by from the sofa as the weather cooled down!

We managed to drag our selfs out and see the sites of Arundel, a walk along the river, around the castle grounds even a game of mini golf! The recommendation of the Townhouse restaurant made for a fantastic meal.

We were celebrating our anniversary on our stay and Ben kindly took us down the river on his boat. He was such great company it was like being out with a friend, we even stopped off for drinks and lunch at the Black Rabbit pub by the river, a must on the list of things to do.
We would recommend this property to any couple who want to get away from it all and relax in stylish & comfortable surroundings.

Big thanks for making our stay so fab!
Owner's Response: Thank you for being such great visitors! The Old Sail Loft was happy to have you and you left it as immaculate as you found it, so thank you again. It is so fulfilling to hear back positive comments such as yours and also for you to have taken the trouble to go into such detail about the extra touches that we aim to provide to make your stay so special and perfect, we were happy that you noticed them and that they made all the difference. It makes all the effort we go to worthwhile, and we felt very happy that we were trusting our beloved home into your safe hands for a few days. We feel that this place is very well suited to a certain type of person and you guys fitted the bill perfectly, which is probably why you had such a great time here, and also probably why we got on so well with you. We look forward to seeing you here again some time soon and handing the keys safely over to you again.

Great for a relaxing break

Review Submitted: April 17, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Thanks so much for a brilliant break, it was just what we were both after. Arundel is delightful and the property is set a few minutes walk from the town and the castle. Enjoying a glass of champagne on the balcony overlooking the river was divine but our favourite part of the property (well, my girlfriends favourite part) was the bath in the bedroom- very luxurious!.
All in all a great property with all the luxuries of modern living but with heaps of character as well. Highly recommended.
Owner's Response: Fantastic! Our very first guests to stay at The Old Sail Loft enjoyed their stay and we are very grateful to receive such a glowing review from them! (The first of many more to come we hope).

We aim to provide the basis of a luxurious and romantic stay for our guests and Arundel is such a magical Town in which to base yourself. Arguably, we have from our balcony, one of the best views in Arundel, and no camera can attempt to show it at it's best-you should definitely come and see it for yourself! We are blessed to have such a unique home here, and never take it for granted. We love it and are delighted to enable others to enjoy it too. Reviews are so important to travellers, and we really appreciate our guests having taken the time after their stay to pass on the details of their experience with us. Thank you.
