Pretty pool side house in private residence, access to beach from the gardens. 2 bedrooms. A recently refurbished ground floor bathroom comprising of: compact bath with shower over, toilet, sink and Tunisian bidet facility. Well equipped kitchen, English-style cooker, microwave, electric kettle, toaster. The master bedroom is on the first floor and has double doors leading onto a large terrace with pool and sea views, and en-suite toilet and wash facilities. Master bedroom has Queen size bed. 2nd bedroom is on the ground floor and has twin beds. At the front of the house is a private terrace beside the pool. Landscaped gardens with palm trees and exotic plants enhance the residence. For your safety smoke detectors are fitted, and an electric water heater

Kerkennah is a peaceful desert island, virtually unchanged by time. Local traditions continue, and the friendliness of the locals will astound you! You can watch the fishermen on their traditional boats (Fallukas), the village ladies in traditional dress herding their flocks of sheep, and enjoy a traditional Shisha pipe whilst watching the glorious sunset. The stars at night are breathtaking! Fresh seafood is plentiful and available from the fish stalls at the port(great for a BBQ) and also available in the handful of restaurants on the Island. Experience the traditional folklore music and take a walk on the beach where bird watchers can enjoy the waders, the sea is safe and shallow for swimming. You can enjoy virtual silence, apart from July and August which is the wedding season and a time when many Kerkennians return home from abroad

Island paradise

We have travelled to Tunisia many times but this was our first visit to the desert island of Kerkennah and to a villa.
We got the train from Sousse to Sfax, which cost £3.00 each, took a short taxi drive for £2.00, then onto the ferry for the princely sum of 30p. Imagine a hour's cruise in the Med for 30p.

When we arrived in the tiny port we were met by the owner, Julie, who took us to the house. It was so easy, just a short walk and we were there. Which was great later in the holiday when we wanted to explore Sfax. We just hopped on the boat and off we went for the day.

The property is delightful, overlooking the pool and surrounded by pretty gardens with palm trees. It's on a small private complex with other villas, a mix of tourists and Tunisians who were lovely. My schoolgirl French was all I needed to join in.
There is a good local supermarket and a couple of cafes very close by, within two minutes. The beach and bay are lovely, most mornings we took our coffee after breakfast and sat on the steps, read books and soaked up the atmostphere.

The villa was everything described and more. Two lovely terraces, downstairs by the pool, perfect for breakfast and upstairs with sea views on three sides, wonderful for a pre dinner G and T. It was really hard to go off sightseeing. Inside was well appointed, beautifully maintained and very comfortable.
Julie was great, she knows the island inside out, she even gave us a mobile phone to use in case we needed help. She arranged a day trip on a fishing boat which was so much fun and suggested several good restaurants. One where we could take our table and eat while paddling, very romantic.
Travelling round the island was easy, either in a taxi or a louage(shared taxi) We also walked a lot, which was a bit of a shock to our friends, it is so flat and easy. Visited the capital, Remla, the villages, the market and a local museum.
Our two weeks in Kerkennah went far too quickly and I really didn't want to go home. We will definitely be back next year, same time , same dilemma...where to relax today.

Beautiful Island House

We stayed here last month and this really was the holiday of a lifetime. We have always dreamed of an island holiday where we can enjoy the simple things without being distracted too much. Our own company, beautiful beaches, swimming in the sea and lovely fresh food. This was our dream come true. Ten out of ten, we will be staying here again next year.

Stunning House on a Stunning Island. Must Visit!

I was lucky enough to stay for a week towards the end of the summer last year (2008). The house is on a private development, approx. 5 min’s walk from the ferry port which was extremely convenient, but with more than enough of a distance from the port. As you approach the complex main entrance, just before the entrance is a small convenience store that sells most things. Their is a reception/security person on the main entrance. Inside the house was modern but still tastefully furnished. It had all the essentials and lots of little luxuries and home comforts, everything from a TV and DVD player, to Corkscrew and Wine Glasses. The house was spotlessly clean. What ever the reason for you holiday or trip, make sure you ask Julie for her recommendations for places to eat/drink as she is English but has lived on the island for a few years. If you also wanted any suggestions for things to do, or just local pointers, she would happily help you if our experience was anything to go by (she arranged some lovely days out, and also meals for us). The house is one of the ones that are in front of the pool and it has its own small garden with patio furniture, which was nice for eating both breakfast in the morning, and dinner at night. To get to the beach is less than a minute walk, and the Sea is even visible from the terrace on the first floor! You just walk out of the side gate instead of the main entrance, and you will then immediately step on to the beautiful sandy beach. We had no complaints at all, and would strongly recommended the house, and Julie’s local knowledge if you want to visit Kerkennah.
