Fishing: Ballythomas Hill is the ideal base from which to plan an angling holiday. Wild Brown Trout are plentiful in the rivers and lakes of the Wicklow Mountains, along with good seasonal runs of Sea Trout. For the sea angler, Bass, Smooth Hound, Tope, and Grey Mullet to specimen size can be targeted from the local coastline, along with a range of lesser species such as Codling, Flounder, and Mackerel. Game Angling The local Aughrim and Avonmore Rivers offer superb Wild Brown Trout fishing, and in their lower reaches the opportunity to catch Sea Trout in season. These rivers run off moor land, and in their middle sections flow through beautiful wooded valleys. Two local clubs, the Aughrim Trout Anglers and the Rathdrum Trout Anglers control the Brown Trout fishing, and day tickets are available. The Brown trout average 6 – 8 oz, with the odd fish reaching a pound plus. They are free rising and on light tackle give great sport. Local fly patterns are the Greenwells Spider, Partridge and

Hunting and Riding: Ballythomas Hill is right at the heart of the hunting scene in Ireland. With many hunts on the doorstep including the foxhound hunts - the Wicklows, Shillelagh's, The Island and the Wexfords and further afield the Carlow Farmers, the Bree and the Bray's (harriers). Local stabling provided by experienced professional only 2 miles from the property - competitive rates - €120 pw full livery. For those not looking to hunt there are miles of forest tracks and quiet rodes to go hacking in with stunning scenary. There is also a local riding club with cross country course and olympic size arena as well as the munny trail - a 600 acre estate only 20 mins drive, take a look at http://www.themoneytrail.com

Great House, Great Setting, Great Holiday

Hyde Hyde, England
Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This is a beautiful house in a beautiful setting. 11 of us stayed and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen is well stocked, there was plenty of bed linen and towels provided. It was very clean and well maintained. The kids loved the huge garden

The folder they provided was very useful. The views from the house are stunning and we made it up the hill which was an adventure but well worth the effort.

We had a wonderful week as this is a great base for exploring, Ireland is stunning and the roads are a pleasure to drive on.

Grace and Martyn are a lovely couple they made us feel very welcome. We hope to return one day soon.

I would definitely recommend this home.

Thank you.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, we are glad you had a great time at the house at Ballythomas hill, it was great to meet you and your family and hope we will see you again next year.

Having just returned from our holiday, i can say that this propertry is absolutely perfect for what a large family group would need.

Stunning scenery, excellent location, and the gruonds of the property are very well kept and made for many happy moments in the garden for the kids (and Adults!!!)

Annagh Hill has to be seen to be believed and has to be climbed!!!

All in all, a very enjoyable holiday with the family, with a holiday home that offers you everything you may need for a stay in the area.

Grace and Martyn are very nice and will make you feel very welcome, we had one very minor issue of me not being able to figure out the heating, although it was fully explained by Grace!!! But Martyn was straight round to put it right and made it feel like no trouble at all.

Thankyou both for yor help in organising this holiday, it was loved by all and we will be reccommending you to family and friends alike.

Wonderful vacation at Ballythomas

CELRN Scottsdale, AZ USA
Review Submitted: June 21, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
This is the perfect house for a large ( 8-10 person) group. It's situated in the midst of rolling hills, just a two minute walk to a pub and 15 minutes by car to Gorey or Aughrim and 20 minutes to Castletown Beach. Grace and Martin (the owners) could not have been more helpful... and the caterer they recommended (Mandy) was superb!! The kitchen is large and well stocked with pots, pans etc. (really anything one might need), and there was a very helpful notebook with restaurant, pub, shopping and activity recommendations. I think our favorite room in the house was the dining room that has a LARGE table and chairs to seat 12 with a wonderful view from all directions. There are 3 bathrooms and we had ample hot water for 8 showers every morning! Ballythomas is quite centrally located and an ideal location for sightseeing trips with many historic sites within easy driving distance. I would certainly stay there again and will recommend this house to friends!
Owner's Response: Thanks Carolyn for your lovely comments, it was a pleasure meeting you and your friends and I hope you will come and see us again sometime in the future and once again bring us the fine weather you experienced on your stay.
