Chy an Porth is a new terraced house three minutes walk from the Blue Flag surfing beach at Porthtowan on the North Cornish coast midway between St Ives and Newquay and within easy reach of The Eden Project, Truro, Falmouth and several National Trust Properties. The house is on three stories and has an open plan ground floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and the master bedroom and en-suite shower room on the second floor. There is a small secure back garden with a shed in which to store surf boards, bicycles etc. Parking for one car. It is an easy walk to the beach, which is Lifeguarded from May to September, and is ideal for families - older children might want to learn to surf and there are lessons and equipment hire available in the village. Younger children will enjoy playing in the rock pools at low tide and might even try the old seawater swimming pool. The South West Coastal Path is a minute away and you can walk along rugged cliff tops in both directions.

The village has a shop, post office, pub and the famous Blue Bar right on the beach as well as cafes, an ice cream parlour and a hairdresser. Falmouth and the Maritime Museum is only 13 miles away and it is possible take a boat trip there from Truro (10 miles away). Truro, our county town, is well worth a visit. For walkers the coastal footpath goes South to the next village of Portreath or North to Chapel Porth and St Agnes, at low tide it is possible to walk along the beach to Chapel Porth, returning on the clifftop path. Cycle hire is available locally and the Great Flat Lode trail and Coast to Coast trail are easily accessible (for walkers too). Porthtowan is surrounded by evidence of ancient tin and copper mines and it is possible to visit Geevor Tin Mine near Land's End, closed as a working mine in 1990, and even go underground. St Ives, famous for its artist colony, is only 18 miles away and we have our own Tate Gallery there. Newquay is 16 miles away.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We require a cheque for £100 as a deposit when booking, with the balance paid 4 weeks before the start of your stay. A cheque for £50 is also required at the same time as the balance is paid and will be returned to you within one week of the end of your stay if there have been no damages. We reserve the right to charge for excessive telephone and central heating usage.
  • If you cancel your booking up to 8 weeks prior to the start of your holiday your deposit will be returned. Cancellations up to 4 weeks prior to the start will result in the forfeit of the holiday deposit. Holidays cancelled less than 3 weeks before arrival will result in the forfeit of the total rental unless we can obtain another booking for the same period, in which case the full rental, less £50 will be returned. In all cases the damages deposit cheque will be returned in full.

Notes: Couples and families only but there are no facilities for children under the age of 2. A small dog would be considered but the beach in the village has a dog ban in place from Easter until the end of September. The ground floor is open plan with wood laminate flooring and floor tiles in the kitchen area and bathrooms. Other areas are carpeted. The sitting area has two leather sofas plus two foam chairs. We have Sky television and provide a few DVDs, these can also be hired from the village shop. Mobile phone connectivity is limited in Porthtowan (middle of the beach at low tide seems possible) so there is a landline connected to the house - free UK evening and weekend calls to non-premium numbers.
