Photos and Description of this London holiday apartment Typically English Charm and Luxury, With a Lovely Private Garden.

PRICE REDUCED FOR WINTER !! We're in historic Gibson Square, which is an oasis of calm just off of Islington's lively Upper Street, where you'll find literally dozens of upscale bars, restaurants and shops. We're convenient to the major bus and tube lines running quickly to all the sights and tourist attractions you'll want to visit in this great city. The flat is on the Ground and Lower Ground floors of a Regency terraced town house. Travel back in time with us: all sides of the Square, and the park inside it, look just as they did when George III was busy losing the Colonies. This quiet, cozy, comfortable holiday rental flat features high ceilings in the principal rooms, cornice mouldings, and the original butler-buffed wood floors. The furnishings feature elegant Georgian mahogany, polished English silver and brass, and Colefax & Fowler fabrics. The kitchen is very well-equipped for cooking the gourmet treats to be found in the abundant local markets. Children over 12 welcome.

Nearest Train: Kings Cross / St. Pancras (Eurostar) at 1 Miles

Ideally situated to explore London for a great city break, Islington itself is a hip, sophisticated destination on the northern edge of Central London, politically and aspirationally resembling Manhattan's upscale Upper West Side. The renowned Almeida Theatre and Kings Head Theatre Pub are just steps away, as are the Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose supermarkets, plus endless boutiques and really fine food and antique shops. Stroll or jog along Regents Canal. Easy transport links, fine restaurants. You can even walk to the Eurostar terminal and day trip to Paris in luxury for £59 return !! Local celebrities include James McAvoy, Lily Allen, Dido and, formerly, Vladimir Lenin, Heath Ledger and Sir Walter Raleigh. Gibson Square alone boasts an Oscar-nominated film composer, a Booker Prize-winning author, a renowned stage director, a nationally known comic and a Member of Parliament. Former neighbour Tony Blair formed New Labour with Gordon Brown in one of the Upper Street restaurants.

Two large closets with over 10' of hanging rods and 5 feet of shelving, plus a 4-drawer chest of drawers. Two large under-bed drawers, too. Lovely designer fabrics, cozy classic ambiance. The charming Guest Bedroom (8.5' x 12') has several running feet of deep open bookshelves rather than a bureau. Its closet is in the hall just outside, with 5' of rod. Both sophisticated bedrooms feature period oil paintings, antiques, luxury wool carpet, designer fabrics, dimmable lighting and fine linens. Tranquil, elegant nights guaranteed! NOTE: The Victoria Line tube runs deep below Gibson Square. On exceptionally quiet days you can hear a low rumble way down below in the bedrock. We find it a charming 'white noise', and think you will too. The trains shut down late at night, of course.

The garden and window boxes are all automatically irrigated, and there's a gas BBQ on the cool York stone terracing outside the kitchen. Further details for this holiday apartment rental in London, United Kingdom

The Bus: Several key buses stop just three minutes from the house, giving convenient scenic access to all the museums, tourist sights, markets and historic neighbourhoods you'll want to see on your vacation, cheaper and often quicker than the tube. Unlike in most cities, here the bus is your friend, with its dedicated express lanes! Take the splendid double-decker #4 red bus to Sadlers Wells, St Paul’s Cathedral, Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Fleet Street, Oxford Street shopping, Covent Garden and the West End theatres, and finally Waterloo Bridge across the River Thames to the South Bank (National Theatre, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, British Film Institute, Hayward Gallery, the London Eye), Imax, Waterloo Station, and the Old Vic. (All that in barely half an hour’s ride!) Other buses from this neighborhood have similarly-stunning itineraries!

The Tube and Rail System: It's just a 7-minute walk to the Angel Islington tube station (Northern Line, Zone 1) for quick connections throughout London – just 1 stop to the King's Cross / St Pancras transport hub for further tube connections, the Eurostar to Paris, and mainline trains to Scotland, the North of England, and Gatwick and Luton Airports. And yes, King's Cross does have a brick wall bearing the sign 'Platform 9 3/4'. It's a 10-minute walk to the Highbury & Islington tube station (Victoria Line) connecting to the Stansted (Airport) Express, and looping through Central London to Victoria Station with connections to all lines. Arsenal's Emirates football stadium is at Highbury, as are National Rail's overground North London and Northern City Lines. Canary Wharf, the Financial District and the 2012 Olympics are quickly accessed from here. Heathrow Airport, by the way, is best accessed by the 15-minute Heathrow Express train, which you get from Paddington Station, less than 20 minutes away.

July 17/09 to July 24/09 - GREAT PLACE TO STAY

Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
THE FLAT IS BEATIFUL!!!! We couldn't have asked for a nicer or cleaner place. When renting from the internet you just never know what you are getting until you actually get there. We thank Gary for being so honest with his photos and descriptions. There were no bad surprises...just great ones!

We totally enjoyed the area, the closeness of the tube and the great restaurants, shops, bakeries and pubs. Even when we needed groceries it they were just steps away.

When I get a chance to go back to England I contact Gary first about staying at this beautiful property.

Thanks again Gary for a great place to stay and making us feel so welcome and comfortable.

We just returned from our trip to London yesterday, May 15th. Our stay was superb!!! The location was great and the flat very clean & well-maintained with all the amenities of home. Access to tube & buses was easy and within walking distance. When we returned from the hustle & bustle of the noisy and busy city, we came back to calm & tranquility. I highly recommend this property to anyone planning a trip to London.

A Gem!

Review Submitted: March 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
We stayed in this charming flat for six weeks. It was perfect. The furnishings are lovely and the location ideal. It is close enough to enjoy the excitement of London but it provides a quiet oasis when you want to escape. I can't imagine a more ideal arrangement. The owners provided excellent customer service. Islington is filled with terrific restaurants and shops. The property was well maintained and very clean. I would HIGHLY recommend this London flat!
