Photos and Description of this Manche holiday farmhouse Large 4 bed farmhouse sleeping 8 to 10 situated close to Brittany Mayenne border

Situated on a private lane adjacent to the village. La Mestiere has been recently and tastefully renovated. Offering old world charm a wealth of beams and many character features. The accommodation is arranged over three floors. Ground floor: open plan living area encompassing a large well equipped kitchen with breakfast area, further dining area and lounge area with a woodburner for those cooler evenings. Cloakroom/utility with washing machine. First floor: two double bedrooms both with additional bed settees (if required) and a twin/bunks. Also a bathroom and second sitting room with a large granite fireplace Third floor: double bedroom with an ensuite shower room. Outside: private terrace with barbecue and seating. Guests have use of the owners large secure garden with 12ft trampoline, swings and ample space for ball games. In the village (5mins walk) to fulfil most requirements, are a bakers, excellent bar/restaurant, shop, hairdressers, post office and doctors.

Situated close to the Mayenne and Brittany borders it offers an excellent base to explore. Within a 10 minute drive is the market town of St. Hilaire , ample shops, and historic Mortain with its cascade and importance in the Normandy offensive. Both towns have good public pools. A lake based leisure complex outside St Hilaire offers excellent canoeing, kayaking, fishing and walks. A 45 minute drive takes you to beautiful unspoilt beaches, the magnificent Mont St. Michel, and the medieval town of Fougeres with its historic chateau. Slightly further afield are Bayeux with its tapestry, the landing beaches, the beautiful walled port of St Malo and Dinan with its ancient houses and fabulous river trips. Numerous other attractions can be found in the local area eg, an 18 hole golf course at Vire (30 mins) and an excellent zoo at Champreux (40 mins) . Local restaurants are plentiful and inexpensive and for quieter days the village has all amenities with many local walks

  • We are happy to accept payment in sterling.The conversion rate will made in accordance with the prevailing bank rate at the time of booking. 25% of the rental price (non-refundable) is required to secure the booking. The remainder of the balance along with a security deposit cheque of 150 euros is required 6 weeks before the arrival date. Linen and cleaning is included in the rental price. We have endeavoured to keep our rental rates affordable and therefore guests are expected to leave the gite in good order. Costs will be deducted should excessive cleaning be required after departure.

Notes: The main living area is heated by a log burner with electric radiators throughout the house. (radiators available for winter let).The first floor has a second sitting room with large granite feature fire place. affording the opportunity for some quiet time away from the main hub of the house. The kitchen is very well equipped and of good size. However evening meals can be provided by experienced caterers if ordered by midday. Various board games ,books and a selection of films and music are provided for you entertainment. Outside can be found a terrace and seating area with barbeque .Bikes are available for loan if desired. Use of the owners garden is available which has a large trampoline and swings. Linen is provided (bath towels at extra charge )and cleaning is included iif it is not excessive. For out of season rentals an additional charge will be made dependent on electricity and log usage. Lovely, traditional French farmhouse in a great location for either relaxing and enjoying the quiet village life or to use as a base for exploring surrounding areas.
The layout of the accommodation worked well for our family (4 adults and 4 children) and having a separate lounge upstairs was ideal. The kitchen was really well equipped and the log burner kept us all very cosy and gave great atmosphere at night. All the bedrooms were spacious and extremely comfortable.
There was plenty of seating outside and the children loved playing on the trampoline and swings.
in the well maintained garden.
The owners Nick and Chris were extremely helpful and happily supplied us with an extra cot and stair gates for the children. They also provided a welcome pack which included the most fantastic homemade sponge cake we had ever eaten!
So impressed with the property and location that we have already booked a return visit for 2 weeks in the summer.

Ideal for family vacation

We have spent a week in this charming house, our extended family: 6 adults and four kids ages 5-10. This was the ideal vacation house for such a group. It is cute, much cuter than the internet pictures show, large, clean, newly redone and extremely functional. Its biggest assets are the kitchen (which is very well equipped and able to feed more than 10 people at a time) and the next door neighbors (the owners of this house: Nick, Chris and Bethan). They gave us our privacy yet were very warm and open and had valuable travel advice. They are very generous and open and underdtood the needs of our kids very well. The yard was equipped with a trampoline and swing set which the kids enjoyed very much. The house, in addition to its living room on the first floor had a family room on the second floor with a wide range of films geared for both adults and kids. The village is small and gives the real feel of a typical small French village, yet has all the amenities of a larger town in the town close by: St. Hilaire. One should note that when traveling during July or August, because the village Notre Dame de Touchet is so small one may find the local boulangerie closed. This is not an issue as St. Hilaire is not too far away. The owners grow some of the food and have the most delicious green beans and plums, one cannot find in the store or local market. The owners also offer dining services which we tried once. Their dinner is gigantic, healthy and tasty and they have a good selection in their menu suitable to please both adults and fussy kids. When traveling again to the area, I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to all my friends.

What a treasure

We had the pleasure of spending a month in this property during July 2009 and cannot speak highly enough of it. The house is easy to find, sitting in a cul de sac just outside of the village of Notre Dame de Touchet. The house is filled with light and the decor is delightfully “French Country” without being twee. . For once, the kitchen actually came fully equipped - and then some. The dishwasher was a rare treat and the kitchen came fully stocked with all accoutrement one could possibly need during a holiday - a real home from home. The laundry is tucked under the stairs with a very handy guest loo. There was a good selection of linen and good quality pillows - always important when we travel. The beds (and there are many to choose from) were very comfortable and bedside tables and lamps were provided for all.
The amazing hospitality of our hosts (Nick, Chris and Bethan) was matched by their discretion. The house can be as private as one wished, however the hosts seemed always available for advice, assistance or just a chat. Their cooking prowess is to be savoured should one be given the opportunity. A new gas BBQ was a treat and we used it well. A wonderful selection of DVD’s and a library of books augmented a fabulous stay. This property ticks all the boxes - it shows an understanding of the travellers needs while drawing on the wonderful French country lifestyle- and delivers the real thing. We loved it cannot recommend it highly enough. Thanks to the Prescotts!
