When looking for a holiday home, in lower Normandy we came upon La Joliere ‘the pretty place’ an area set high in the rolling hills, on a scenic route, where the air is clean and fresh. We immediately fell in love with the 360 degree views over the glorious surrounding countryside and the large, old stone farmhouse that enjoys sole residency in this magical spot. With a wood close by that is ribboned by little streams, it is a haven for wildlife and several unusual species of birds. If you mention La Joliere to the locals, they will respond ‘Ah, La Joliere, tranquille!’ And tranquil it is with your nearest neighbours 3/4 mile away. However, 2 miles in either direction will bring you to 2 well-appointed villages and recommended restaurant. We are just 6 miles to the bustling town of Vire with its wealth of restaurants, shops, theatre, cinema, weekly market etc. and direct train line to Paris. We have an indoor games room with pool, table tennis & darts, outside - boules, badminton

La Joliere is centrally placed to visit a host of interesting places that are easily accessible by car. Le Mont. St. Michel, rising from its island in the sea is 50 minutes, the west coast with its lovely beaches 40 minutes, Bayeux and the Normandy landing beaches 1 hour. Swiss Normandy and the castle of William the conqueror can also be reached in an hour, we have a folder at La Joliere with suggested routes for full and half-day trips out.

  • The price of La Joliere is all inclusive. We have, ourselves, in the past received shockingly high bills at the end of holidays which we had neither considered nor budgeted for. Cot & highchair are provided as is bed linen (except for cot), towels, gas, water, electricity and logs at no extra cost + cool box, swimming towels and beach mats for your seaside picnics.

    If you desire a two week stay at La Joliere may we suggest that you book early to avoid disappointment.

Beautiful house in a peaceful location

We stayed here for a week over the May halfterm, and what a wonderful surprise.

Green rolling hills with the only birdsong, cows and the donkey down the road is to be heard. The house is amazing - just what I imagined a farmhouse should be like. A huge kitchen with a large table in front of the fire, stunning views from every window, huge gamesroom, and the comfortable bedrooms on two levels which suited us well. My inlaws used one of the bedroom and bathroom on the top level and we used those on the first floor with our two children - which was great as we all had our privacy.

But the best was the garden, lovely hammock to laze about in, romantic patio area with barbeque and fairy lights and the heated swimming pool which we used twice in May!! There was also a few beach toys and loads of other outdoor games we used. Even a boules court and balls!!

And if you walk out of the gate there are some lovely walks to go on and farm animals to meet (we even saw some new foals) - check the guest book for tips.

The nearby restaurant 'Les Auberges' was very good - excellent steak although if you don't speak french you might get a surprise on your plate! The surrounding area is beautiful but quiet (maybe because it was May) - it seems like they could do with a bit more tourism. Vire was bustling but Domfront quaint, historic but deserted.


We also visited Mont St Michel and paddled on a river (can't remember where) and visited the Biscuiterie le Abbaye and stocked up on biscuits. We had a wonderful time and can recommend this property to anyone.
