Lone Oak

Review Submitted: September 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The lone oak provoded an excellent base for our weeks holiday. The surrouding area of somerset and longleat was all we expected it to be and more. As for the cottage itself, it was very comfortable, and had all the facilities we required. A bath would have been nice for the little ones, but the shower was adequate. The beds were all extremely comfortable. On arrival we found the cottage was very clean and everything was in order. The owner of the property was polite and very helpful. The decor of the cottage was beginning to look a little tired, but thats just that is the only thing I could find fault with. The swimming pool which is located 5 mins walk away was just the right size to get a good swim. The changing facilites were under renovation when we visited, but sure they will measure up when completed. I would recommend this property to any of my friends.

Owner's Response: REVIEW SEPTEMBER 2009: Thank you very much for your informative review. We are glad that you enjoyed your holiday in Lone Oak.

We have been aware that only one shower room for up to six guests is less than everyone is used to at home, so the builders are starting another shower room at Lone Oak this month, (OCTOBER 2009) and it will be completed by December 2009. This will greatly improve your comfort.

Our second cottage, The Tallet, is more suitable for families with pre-school children as it has a bath, and many other essentials for young children. There is a baby bath at Lone Oak, and the shower has hand rails so can be used by children with parental supervision.

Lone Oak is also suitable for those with mobility problems, (Level M1) with handrails and no stairs.

The swimming pool, which is available in June, July and August is situated in our farmhouse garden 5 minutes from Lone Oak-the changing room is now complete.

Families staying at Lone 'Oak are welcome to bring a picnic down to the play area in the farmhouse garden, which has a climbing frame, swings, a Wendy House & ride on toys.

Longleat is a particular attraction in the area, but there are many more-Wookey Hole, Cheddar Caves, Bath, Yeovilton Air Museum, Haynes Motor Museum, Street Factory shops and many National Trust properties.

Do come to Clanville Manor Holiday Cottages, and enjoy all that Somerset has to offer!

Perfect bolthole for the whole family

Review Submitted: September 21, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Lone Oak in August 2010. The cottage is very cosy and realy well equipped for babies and small children. It felt like home from home. The garden was a particular hit with our two-year old, who loved the slide and ride-on tractor. He was in his element! The view out onto farmland is tranquil and peaceful and the graziing cows added extra interest for the little ones! The additional facilities at the farm itself (a five minute walk) are excellent (swimming pool and play area) and would have been a real bonus if the weather had been just a bit warmer! A great location for seeing the sights of this gorgeous part of Somerset. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. All in all - 5 stars and thank you so much for a lovely holiday!

Perfect festival base camp

Review Submitted: June 30, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
My friends and family have stayed at Lone Oak for two years as a base for the Glastonbury Festival and it always proves to be the perfect retreat after a day in Eavis's either wet or sun parched fields.

While close to Clanville and Castle Cary ie pubs, restaurants and shops the cottage has an isolated feel with incredible views out the back windows of rolling countryside.

We look to continue to make Lone Oak our base camp for many years to come.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review! Clanville Manor and Lone Oak are close enough to Glastonbury Festival to be convenient but far enough away to be a quiet haven from the 24 hour noise!
Lone Oak is also now 'child-friendly, with many extras especially for pre-school children to save space in your car: cot with bedding, booster seat, socket covers, highchair, steriliser, bottle warmer, children's cutlery & crockery, changing mat, step, even a trainer toilet seat and potty!! The kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher and freezer. There is a Freeview TV (Cbeebies and CBBC) with DVD player. (Bring their favourite DVDs!) A washing machine and tumble dryer are available in the utility room.
Also, a small climbing frame and slide for youngsters in the garden. As Lone Oak is a ground floor property, it is ideal for several generations to enjoy a holiday together.

Cosy & Peaceful

Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The property was very clean and well equipped - definitely a home from home. It's only a few minutes drive from Castle Cary, which is full of character with a couple of nice pubs. Easy access to so many other places of interest, too - we really loved Wells.
Everything was well organised, with lots of information easily to hand. This cottage is perfect for anyone who's a little frail, with grab rails and easy access shower. Sally was very helpful, but absolutely not intrusive. You are left in peace at the cottage, but help and advice at hand.

We were only there for 2 nights, so didn't really get to explore the immediate locality ( and the weather was poor, so the pool was out of the question), but it would be a stunning location on a lovely summer's day.

On the whole, absolutely matched our expectations, and made for a lovely stay.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Thank you to the reviewer-Lone Oak is ideal for those with a slight disability; not suitable for wheelchair users. It is also ideal for families, with three bedrooms and a garden that overlooks one of our fields.
