Gennadi:
Travel time from Rhodes Diagoras airport is about 40 mins by car. Lindos is only 15 minutes away. Our villa is less than a minute's walk from the village centre. Gennadi is a vibrant, friendly place with very good bus links to virtually anywhere on the island. If you decide to tour Rhodes independently, you can hire cars, motorcycles & scooters in the village. Taxis are also quite cost-effective. There's an ATM near the supermarket, a Post Office on the next street down and a large, well-equipped Medical Centre on the way to the Beach. We have just about everything in Gennnadi, including the kitchen sink!
Out and About:
If you want to rent something and tour the Island, vehicle rental companies operate from Gennadi and nearby Kiotari & Pefkos. The island's major roads are excellent, many having been resurfaced in 2006/07. You can also 'Island Hop' from Rhodes Port on the Dodekanisos Express and even go on a day trip to Turkey by ferry or hydrofoil! If you want to see a really beautiful little island, pop over for a day to Halki on the ferry out of Kamiros Skala (West coast of island). Not to be pushy or snobbish, but you really can't say you've been to Rhodes without visiting the Old Town. It's simply breathtaking. It's the largest, currently inhabited medieval fortification in Europe AND it's a World Heritage Site. Lindos is the other Jewel in Rhodes' Crown and it's only 15 minutes away from our villa. Visit Lindos any time of day or night and you'll be captivated by its charm and undying Greek spirit. Ancient Greeks worshipped at the Lindos Acropolis 2,000 years ago!
Sporting Activities:
There's plenty to do at the beach, including windsurfing, canoeing, parascending and of course swimming in what are reputed to be the cleanest waters of the Aegean. There's a great water sports centre at nearby Kiotari and for those with a longing for the extreme, there's Prassonissi!! Famous across the Globe, it's where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. The prevailing winds and surf conditions bring top wind- and kite-surfers from around the World. There's always something exciting to watch at Prassonissi! You can go cycling or mountain biking in and around Gennadi. Walking is wonderful, especially in the island's interior. There's horse riding at nearby Asklipio, or at Tsambika just North of Archangelos. You can fish all of the coastline from the shore, or take day boat trips out of Pefkos. Many hotels have tennis courts you're free to use and you'll be welcome at the Rhodes Tennis Club just South of Rhodes Town.
Golf:
Afandou Golf Club offers a serious test to golfers of any level (We're single figure and low-teen handicappers and the course slaughters us more often than we play to handicap). There are no 'Mickey Mouse' holes on this course, but please be advised the fairways get very parched, especially July through September. If you want a holiday where quality golf is of paramount importance to your enjoyment, Rhodes isn't right for you, yet.
