Living history:
This villa in Issigeac is part of the ancient Gallo-Roman history of the area - and actually sits on top of a registered Gallo-Roman villa from 1BC. The village itself started in 1317, built by the popes of Sarlat. With it's 12 ft high ceilings, stone walls and massive, ancient beams, this home is more than a holiday/vacation rental - it's a historical experience. The house was renovated from top to bottom from 2000 to 2005 with all new electrics and plumbing. The stone was all sand blasted and renovated, as were the massive walnut beams. It has double glazing and so, although you are in village, it is so quiet in the house until you open a window. The large French windows have light pouring through them all day - offering a truly luminous interior landscape. In fact, I love to watch people as they enter these ancient spaces and are so taken aback by the beauty of each floor, especially the massive living space. I remember that was how I felt the first time I saw it too!
About the owners:
We are the proud owners of the village house on Rue St Felicien and purchased it in June 2006. Although our home is in California, we have travelled a great deal in Western Europe & have rented many properties – some great, and some less than spectacular! We always appreciated cleanliness, comfort, good beds, furniture you could actually sit on (!), great linens & towels, appliances that really worked, and nice big wine glasses! After buying our 'gem' in Issigeac, our philosophy hasn’t changed - we have upgraded the standard of the house to meet or exceed the best we’ve seen. Basically, we have designed it to be the way we’d like it if we arrived tired and hungry from across the world. We appreciate the chance that you take when you book on-line and hope that what you see is really what you’ll be getting! We guarantee that you will not be disappointed - in fact, when they arrive, most of our guests feel that the reality of the house far exceeds their expectations.
