Clérac is a small, pretty rural village with some 400 inhabitants. All around Clérac there are some great cycle paths and forest walks. In Montguyon (~5km), originally a fortified castle town (still with a medieval castle) there are banks, chemists, various shops and supermarkets. Horse Riding, wine & Pineau tasting are also close.
The region is famous for its food and wine. Restaurants abound, and Bordeaux, St Emilion and Libourne (home of Pomerol) are ~30mins away, while Blaye is closer at ~20mins. Cognac too is only ~45 mins away!
We also offer cooked meals and wine tasting classes at the chateau.
There are many scenic villages/towns nearby and lots of activities for kids - lakes, adventure park at Jonzac, one of France's largest zoos at Royan.
The largest sand dune is Europe is at Arcachon together with a water park (~1hr away).
Prehistoric caves & archaeological sites in the Dordogne are also ~ 1hr from the Chateau.
