The Lake District has some of England's best known scenery. The central area, around Windemere and Ambleside, attracts the majority of tourists but those heading instead to the more tranquil south-western part of the Lake District are rewarded with the dramatic landscape of mountains meeting coast. Broughton-in-Furness, a small market town full of character, is an ideal base from which to enjoy the area's wide range of tourist attractions, historical sites and leisure activities. Ride on a steam train from Hatherthwaite to the Lakes Aquarium, visit Muncaster Castle with its owl sanctuary, enjoy the spectacle of tigers being fed at Dallton's South West Lakes Animal Park or take a boat ride on Coniston Water. Pre-historic stone circles, heritage houses and ancient castles abound. Go mountain biking in nearby Grizedale Forest, canoeing on the Duddon River, horse-riding on Sliecroft beach or simply make the most of glorious vistas of open sea, shimmering lakes and lofty mountains..

Lovely weekend break

Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We stayed at the cottage in April 09 and had a truely fantastic stay.
The cottage was a good size and more than accomodated myself, husband and 22 month old daughter. it was well equipped, spotless, bright and comfortable.
Annette who managed the property was very helpful and gave us great tips and advice about the surrounding area.
The location was perfect, close to Duddon river, Conniston which my daughter loved around the lake and "beach".
Broughton village itself has a delightful bakery, a couple of great pubs, post office with cashpoint and bucket and spades!
There is a park nearby with swings, slide etc and a large playing field.
Would definately recommend for couples young and old, families and friends.
We will certainly be staying again at some point in the future.

Charming cottage and village

Kate & Al London
Review Submitted: July 7, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We staying at Copper Rigg in June 09 and had a wonderful 11 days in the stunning Lakes District.

We found the cottage to be well equiped with everything that we needed and initially thought we would be overlooked in the courtyard, only to discover it was a unmaned fire station at the back and there was hardly ever anyone there so was never an issue. As the property is relatively new it was in great condition and was very clean and tidy.

The village of Broughton is full of charm and the locals are very friendly and made us feel totally welcome.

For golf fans the Ulverston Golf Club comes highly recommended.

The river up the Ulpha valley was a delight and due to our luck with some beautiful weather we were able to enjoy a few picnics by the riverside.

Overall this was a great cottage in a perfect location for us to explore all that the wonderful Lakes District has to offer.

Thanks

Broughton

JHM Wetherby, West Yorkshire
Review Submitted: May 25, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We found this a very comfortable and well-equipped cottage, close to the centre of the town. Broughton is a good centre for the Southern and Western Lakes and is well supplied with places to shop and eat. We particularly enjoyed the beauty and quietness of the Duddon valley, a few minutes from the cottage.
