Roussillon, The Med, The Pyrenees & Spain:
This is a truly superb region for any type of holiday you could wish for and at any time of year. Roussillon is the sunniest part of France with app. 320 sunshine days a year with the autumn being a real treat and break from colder parts of Europe. The Med resorts of Canet, Barcares, St.Cyprien and Argeles all with marvellous beaches are all just minutes away. The famous and beautiful Collioure, Ceret and Figueres in Spain are loaded with artistic history. The majestic Pyrenees wrap themselves around Roussillon and tumble into the Med, the lush countryside is quite simply carpeted with sun baked vineyards. If all that was not enough, the lovely Costa Brava of Spain is Roussillon's southern neighbour.
The nearby Medierranean coast:
The Languedoc Roussillon Mediterranean coastline running along the Aude and the Pyrenees Orientales is full of contrast and diversity which seduces thousands of holiday makers every year. There are over 70 kilometres (40 miles) of golden sandy beach stretching from the mouth of the River Aude, down the length of the Golfe du Lion to the rugged cliffs of the Côte Vermeille at the Spanish border. Intercepted by lagoons, rocky outcrops and pine forests, and edged with endless blue sea it is no wonder that going on vacation here is as popular with the French as it is with foreign visitors. For many of them, lazing on the beach soaking in the sun, or sitting at port side bistros sipping from a cool glass of wine is more than enough to fill the day. But, with first class facilities and sights of historic and cultural interest, there is so much more on offer along this most impressive coastline.
Perpignan:
Just 20 minutes by car is the exotic and colourful city of Perpignan.. It is hard to think how anyone would want for more from a city. It is full of sophisticated shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and music clubs. There are many interesting festivals held in the city during the year. The old quarter of the city is home to several multi-cultural food markets and full of fascinating Catalan architecture. The icing on the cake is that almost at every turn, the city is full of exotic palm trees.
