Beautiful rural location in Virargues, just 5km from the medieval market town of Murat. This recently renovated stone farmhouse offers four levels of accommodation and walled south-facing gardens. Just 15 minutes from Le Lioran ski resort, and at the heart of walking and mountain bike trails this property offers the ideal base for an active outdoor holiday. 7/8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, including two en suites, plus a spacious games room with table-football and table-tennis tables. The ground floor offers a large open plan kitchen and living/ dining space with range cooker, games table/reading corner, open fire and underfloor heating. Large dining table. The first floor has 4 bedrooms and a television room with two occasional double sofa beds for additional flexible sleeping accommodation. The second floor sleeps 8 people with ease.

Virargues is a rural hamlet in the Cantal department of the Auvergne. Situated in the heart of the Volcanic National Park, the medieval market town of Murat with its quaint streets, bars, restaurants, outdoor and indoor market and shops is only 5 minutes away. Murat also offers a leisure centre, swimming pool, tennis courts and childrens playground. The property is 15 minutes by car to Le Lioran ski resort offering both winter and summer sports including both skiing and mountain bike trails accessed from its network of lifts. Childcare is available at Lavessiere nearby. Extensive walking and mountain bike trails are easily accessed from the property.

Notes: The house is accessed through either the main double doors of the summer entrance, or the winter hall to the side which provides large storage cupboards for skis, boots and outdoor wear, plus secure bicycle storage. Ground floor - There is a spacious and welcoming open plan living room, dining room and kitchen taking up the whole of the remainder of the ground floor. The flexible dining tables can be arranged together to seat up to 20 dining in comfort. There are several living areas. On the ground floor guests can choose between the comfortable sofas and armchairs, the window seat, or the 'petit salon' with card table and internet access. On the first floor is the television area, which offers two further sofas. Games room - there is a large games room on the second floor with table football and table tennis. There is also a smaller play area on the same floor for younger children, with a small selection of children toys.

Ski:

The ski resort of Le Lioran is situated in the Monts D'Auvergne area of the Cantal department in the Massif Central region, and is the Auvergne's biggest ski station. The lift served area extends from 1250 metres to 1850 metres. There are 60 km of lift served runs served by 17 drags, 6 chairs and 1 cable car. There are 150 km of cross country trails in the area with 21km over four circuits accessible from Le Lioran. The resort features a snow park. There are all kinds of runs from cruising blues to steep blacks served by 24 lifts and now covered by 55 snow canons. There is some good and interesting off piste, for example from the téléphérique and also after a short climb to the Puy du Rocher. It is also a good destination for snow shoes, cross country skiing with many challenging circuits and ski touring.

There are three ski schools available, ESF, ESI and Yetis, all of which are good. Both group and individual lessons are available for children and adults.

Fantastic House!!

We had a fantastic week at Maison Southby over the Christmas/New Year Period. We were able to ski every day, (the resort was just a 15 minute drive away), and it was fantastic to return from the slopes to such a gorgeous house. The house had everything we could wish for and more. A very well equipped kitchen, (I was very impressed by the creme brulee tool!!), beautiful bedrooms, and the most luxurious, relaxing, sunken bath I have ever had! The kids loved sleeping in the mezzanine bunks - and with a games room too they were in holiday heaven.

Je vous envoie ce petit mail pour vous dire que nous avons passé un très bon moment dans votre gîte à Virargues! Nous avons bien récupéré les clés chez le voisin qui est très sympathique et l'endroit est vraiment magnifique; vous avez fait un sacré joli travail!!!
Nous avons bien profité de la cheminée, de la salle de jeux et des alentours!!! tout le monde était ravi....ne manque plus que la piscine et le billard!!!!
Le seul bémol peut etre était au niveau du chauffage: il semble que les radiateurs étaient programmés pour s'arreter la nuit et nous n'avons pas réussi à les régler...comme il faisait très froid ce we (-4°C)!! mais avec la cheminée et les couettes nous n'avons pas eu trop froid!
en tout cas, c'était vraiment un chouette week end, et je ne manquerai pas de recommander cet endroit autour de moi et de vous recontacter si nous organisons un autre week end dans le futur!
