Hydra itself is unique as there are no cars or bikes. The local taxi is a donkey or a boat and the pace of life has never passed a steady amble. The town cascades like a small amphitheatre down from the pine forest on the hill tops to the harbour and the buildings are all traditionally built transporting you back to a Greece of old. Sea swimming, harbour, cafe, interesting shops, tavernas, gallery, winding whitewashed ally's, old churches, wind swept trees, little boats bobbing, bakery offering warm fresh baked bread, friendly (clean) cats, old women in black just sitting, donkeys. It seems the list is endless of what is within 400 meters of this apartment. Or if you are feeling adventurous the islands of Spetus. Poros, Ageana and Agistri are all within reach for a days outing. On the mainland you could visit Ermioni, or Galatas the village next to Trizina where Thesius was born. But with the monasteries and coastal walks on Hydra to be explored there is no reason to leave the island!
