Pierrelys is a beautiful newly converted Charentaise farmhouse enjoying a courtyard setting framed by old stone barns and cherry trees, and surrounded by abundant sunflower fields and ripening corn. It offers spacious accommodation (sleeping 8-10), with exposed beams, traditional stone floors and walls, and broadband WiFi , close to Atlantic coast. 1.Ground floor: Kitchen / diner - Large open plan kitchen with bar stools and Island or farmhouse kitchen table. Living room - a large terracotta floored room with 2 sofas, television and desk for reading, writing or using a laptop . Bedroom 1 - a single room, with French doors leading to the courtyard. Shower room - with toilet. 2.First floor: Bedroom 2 - double bedroom with king bed. Bedroom 3 - double bedroom. Bedrooms 4 and 5 - a twin bedroom for children/teenager (up to 17 years depending on size) and an interconnecting bedroom with double bed and moveable cot. Pierrelys is a beautiful Charentaise farmhouse surrounded by sunflower fields and ripening corn, yet around only 10 miles from the Atlantic Coast. The newly renovated farmhouse offers expansive traditional accommodation and stylish decor, sleeping 8 (and up to 10 comfortably by agreement) Pierrelys is on the South West coast of France in the tranquil hamlet of Bois, Charente Maritime . The local town of Saint-Genis is only a short cycle ride away and offers all the essentials for French living, with its excellent selection of bars, restaurants and boulangeries, and its well known and vibrant local food and antiques market. The South west coast of France is renowned for it's sunny micro climate, second only to the Cote d'Azur's, with white sandy beaches and beautiful flower-filled Cognac countryside and oysters. The land around Pierrelys is used principally for growing sunflowers, grapes, wheat and maize, and many nearby beaches are both very beautiful and child friendly

The upstairs bedrooms all benefit from exposed beams and all windows are fitted with child safety locks and beds with mosquito nets (use optional) A child safety gate is fitted at the top of the staircase.

Notes: The property has from a beautiful courtyard setting, perfect for an early evening game of boules at sunset and a long drink. Others may prefer a more energetic game of ping pong. Children paddling pools, games and baby see saws, as well as badminton sets are available, as is an exercise bike or a real bike (perfect for those early morning croissant runs!) Wooden sun loungers are set out for those who simply wish to take a book from the well stocked library and relax in the shade of the cherry tree.

How to get here: Pierrelys can be reached by road from all of the main French ferry ports, and is within approximately 4.5 hours drive from St Malo and around 5 hours drive from Caen. Dover to Bolougne or Calais or the Channel Tunnel are also excellent means of crossing for the drive South West to Charente Maritime to reach Pierrelys. The nearest airports of Bordeax, which is within 82 kms and La Rochelle, at just over 100kms away and are both within around an hour's drive, and the other nearby airports of Poitiers and Angouleme, at 71 kms away, also have regular flights from the UK.

On Site: Table tennis, boules and badminton are available, as is an exercise bike and cycle. However you may wish to simply relax in the French Countryside under the shade of the cherry tree in a comfortable wooden lounger. A choice of local swimming pools are available in local towns, and many welcoming beaches lined with cafes and seafood restaurants are easily reached for a sunny day out.

Family holiday in September

Last September 2008 my family and I had a delightful stay at Pierrelys. We were looking for a spacious and peaceful place to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday and Pierrelys was just right. The house is a traditional Charentaise farmhouse with all its charm but with the conveniences of everyday living. It is a short cycle ride into the village for baguettes and croissants which we really enjoyed eating outside. You can get most provisions in St Genis or in nearby Pons where there is a large Leclerc supermarket. It's a great area for wine, cognac and pineau. We saw some beautiful chateaux in the Bordeaux vineyards of the Cotes de Blaye and the Medoc to the south and visited the Hennessy distillery in Cognac. Pierrelys is also well situated for day trips to the coast and Gironde estuary where there are nature reserves, beaches towards St Georges de Didonne, and above Royan, and some interesting places to visit like Talmont with its cliff-top church. There are lots of places to eat out in the area. Our favourite was a seafood restaurant overlooking a small yacht basin in Mortagne sur Gironde. We would recommend Pierrelys to anyone who is interested in a stay in a place where you can still enjoy an authentic rural French environment and way of life.

Excellent house with lots of space and good rooms both on ground floor and first floor. large airy kitchen with lots of worksurfaces and equipment makes catering easy. Well located. Throughly recommended.

Peaceful, comfortable holiday home for relaxing in

We were a party of 4 adults visiting just before Easter 2009. We found the house charming, very comfortable and spacious. It is situated in a beautiful part of France which has easy access to a range of attractions but is not over full of tourists. Whether we were relaxing in the house or playing games or sitting outside, it was a good place to be. We had a wonderful drive through the Blaye region of vinyards, stopping off and tasting at several, as well as visiting the Martell distillery in Cognac. The coast is well worth visiting, with very pretty villages. We were able to take advantage of the sunny days by sitting outside reading, playing table tennis and boules. When the planned landscaping has been completed I would rate this property as Excellent.

A charming french farmhouse renovated with the discerning traveller in mind - well equiped, private with lovely touches of rustic detail. A fantastic 'home from home' to use as a base to explore this beautiful region with so much to offer. Food, wine, history and culture are all near to hand as are fantastic beaches for a lazy family holiday. Surrounded by stunning sunflower fields this is a quiet location to be savoured with nothing much to disturb the peace apart from the cicada.

There is plenty of reference material at the house to help plan trips and the owners couldn't be more helpful before and during the visit.

We'll remember this holiday for many years to come and hope to return again soon.

I stayed here for a month in the summer of 2008. Had a fantastic time in this beautiful house in a stunning location. Very well maintained property with accurate description, would recommend highly. Will definately be returning and recommending to friends.
