The former small fishing village of Carvoeiro is now a growing holiday resort, mostly based around self-catering accommodation. A friendly, attractive little town, it has kept most of the development on the outskirts, so as not to ruin the historic centre, which retains much of its original charm.
Located about halfway between the larger towns of Albufeira and Lagos, Carvoeiro is a popular destination with a fine sandy beach, backed by rugged, ochre coloured cliffs. The surrounding coastline is very rocky and is lined with grottoes, stone arches and fascinating rock formations, which have been eroded by the action of the sea. Boat trips are the order of the day in Carvoeiro, and from here you can take a trip to Algar Seco, about 1 kilometre away, a renowned beauty spot, especially popular with scuba divers and snorkellers.
Carvoeiro is ideal for family holidays and has a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants, there are also a choice of golf courses.
