Photos and Description of this Central Portugal holiday villa 3 bedroom light and airy villa 6 minutes from Luso, 25 minutes from Coimbra

Situated in a small village on a forested mountain slope, this lovely, light and sunny villa has been fully renovated in time for the 2009 holiday season. The villa has two double bedrooms on the ground floor with wardrobes and french windows to the verandah, and a luxury bathroom. The upper floor comprises a good sized kitchen, lounge and dining area, a large south facing balcony and a bedroom with a single bed and a trundle bed and wardrobe. There is an adjoining shower room with w/c and sink. The spacious lounge has two sofas (one is a sofa bed), music centre, TV, DVDs & player and working fireplace. Lovely, fully equipped kitchen. There is an enclosed courtyard providing plenty of parking and additional recreation area. Large garden with lemon, orange & olive trees. Nearest restaurants, shops, hotels etc are a 6 minute drive away in lovely Luso, though mobile shops bring bread, fish and groceries daily.

The village of Louredo has about 20 houses. There is excellent walking and cycling around the village, and the garden around the house has plenty of fruit and olive trees for your use. A 6 minute scenic drive takes you to the beautiful thermal spa town of Luso, which has several restaurants and hotels, and the superb summer palace of the last Portuguese king. The park surrounding the Palace is a World Heritage site and offers superb walking and spectacular views. There is an interesting museum commemorating the Peninsula War and an adjacent battlefield. Coimbra, an ancient university town on the banks of the river Mondego, is 25 minutes away. The coast is about a 50 minute drive and offers miles of sandy Atlantic beaches and the charming Figueira de Foz. The nearby town of Mealhada is famous for roast suckling pig and there are many village and town festivals throughout summer. Try the free wine tastings at the many local vineyards and enjoy the lovely (and cheap) Bairrada wine.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We require a 20% deposit which is only refundable if the house can be re-let for the chosen dates. We also require a security deposit of 250 euros to cover any damage to the property, fixtures and fittings. This will be fully refunded via bank transfer within 7 days if no significant damage has occurred. We have house insurance, this just covers the excess.

Notes: There is outside seating, benches and tables ample for at least 8 people. The large outside wooden table is collapsible and can be moved between the courtyard and the balcony if required. There is a also a table and four chairs in the kitchen and a matching two seater bench that can be moved into the kitchen if required. The lounge dining area has a large hardwood table that can seat 6 people.

There are modern municipal indoor pools nearby in Mealhada and Penacova. There is a children's open air swimming pool in the centre of Luso and an Olympic sized swimming pool available at the Grande Hotel Luso for a small daily charge. Both of these pools are open mid-July to mid-September. There are also river beaches along the local rivers e.g. the Mondego. There are also many interesting places to visit within one hour's drive. The roman ruins at Conimbrga, just south of Coimbra, are very impressive. There are castles to visit (e.g. Pombal), quaint villages and beautiful countryside. The nearby Bucaco forest has 105 hectares of wooded slopes and gardens to explore offering specatacular views and great walking trails. In the grounds there is the Palace hotel and attached Carmelite monastery. Try the spectacular looking Rococo restaurant for a special dinner one night. The Palace park is a World Heritage Site and should not be missed.

This is a superb property in a peaceful village location which takes you back in time. The facilities are excellent. The garden fruits are a bonus.
The village is an ideal base to explore the area which has plenty of history and walks. A car is a must if visitors are to get the best of the location.
The property was easy to find - thanks to the owners instructions. Bill (owner) was also really friendly and helpful.
If you want peace and quiet go for it!
