The ancient medieval town of Carcsès traces its history back to 11th century. It stands on the hill where the waters of the Argens and Caramy rivers meet, in the heart of Var region, at 115m above sea level, between the Provençal Alps and the Mediterranean beaches. It is a typical small Provençal town, sleepy in winter and lively in summer, with a population of around 3,000, surrounded by pine woods and picturesque hills.
The freshwater lake (Lac de Carcès) provides clean water for the town of Toulon. Although swimming is not allowed, the lake is famous for pike, crayfish and trout fishing.
Village du Lac de Carcès is a tiny village on the hill, looking down over the lake. It is around 6 km from the town of Carces, and 10 km from Brignoles. The few houses are scattered along the slope, and surrounded by pine trees. The view of the lake and surrounding hills is simply breathtaking.
