Photos and Description of this Skopelos holiday house Traditional house 2 double ensuite bedrooms sleeps 4, garden, near waterfront

Lovely traditional house in the heart of historic Skopelos Town on three floors with two en-suite double bedrooms and a generous open-plan living room with kitchen. Recently restored it has all creature comforts while retaining its original features. The balcony offers views across the harbour to the hills beyond. The garden has a traditional barbecue fireplace. It is ideal for cooking and eating out under the bountiful lemon tree. The house is located in the oldest and quietest part of town 50 metres from the bustling waterfront. Skopelos Town rises steeply from the harbour like an amphitheatre. It is a wonderful place to wander through the maze of winding alleyways hung with bougainvillea, jasmine and hibiscus. The harbour, lined with mulberry trees that provide shade for the tavernas and cafes, is the focus of the town. Everyone who has stayed in the house has loved it. It has everything you could need from a Greek island town house.

Skopelos is a green jewel in the blue Aegean. Covered in pine forest the island has two main centres, the town of Skopelos at one end and the mountain village of Glossa at the other with the island’s one main road linking the two. The superb beaches are easily reached by bus, car or motorbike. Some are secluded and deserted while others have umbrellas, recliners and tavernas. All are fantastic for swimming and snorkelling in the clear water. There are wonderful walks and opportunities to explore valleys of plane trees fed by abundant spring water, hillsides of umbrella pines hiding small churches and white-washed monasteries, fruit orchards, olive groves, cliff top tracks used by large, shaggy goats and surveyed by birds of prey, and many dramatic views across to neighbouring islands. Skopelos was the location for Mamma Mia, the UK’s biggest-grossing film ever. You can visit the beautiful church on the rocks and soak up the sun on all the beaches from the film.

Idyllic house on an idyllic island

Sbp69 London, England
Review Submitted: October 5, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
My girlfriend and I have just returned from a blissful week here.

Skopelos is a wonderful island and Chris and Ali’s house is an ideal place to stay. Its location couldn’t be better, set just a 100 metres or so back from the waterfront in a very peaceful part of town. The house has been tastefully decorated and has a light, airy and relaxed feel, particularly the large main bedroom which enjoys great views across the town and waterfront. There is also a sunny patio garden adjacent to a pretty family chapel. Perhaps the only (slight) negative about the house is that the ground floor second bedroom, presumably intended for use by couples with children, is rather gloomy. It does benefit from a second shower room, however.

Skopelos town looks like it just dropped off a post card, with its rambling streets full of white houses with indigo shutters. It’s easily the prettiest town I’ve visited on several trips to Greece. The waterfront has numerous worthwhile bars and restaurants. But, we found that we had our most enjoyable and relaxing meals at the garden restaurants set further back into the town. There are also numerous craft shops in the town. However, most were surprisingly expensive, even when compared to the “saw you coming” Richmond area of London in which we live. There is though a gem of a pottery studio selling at more reasonable prices – well worth seeking out (you’ll find it near the Alexander restaurant in the streets behind the waterfront).

We used the local bus service to visit other parts of the island, although car or moped hire is also widely available. The bus service was inexpensive and reliable, stopping at a number of different beaches, including, apparently, the one used for the filming of Mamma Mia.

Overall we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend both Skopelos and Chris and Ali’s house to anyone looking for an unforgettable holiday.

Holidays in Skopels

alpiotto Genoa, Italy
Review Submitted: October 4, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This wonderful apartment gave us and our two friends a great week in Skopelos!
It's very nice, clean, with a great terrace and barbeque in the centre of the town in a typical Greek atmosphere!
I suggest everyone to spend an holiday in this beautiful house!

A little gem of a house

diandpaul Bristol, UK
Review Submitted: October 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Sensitively restored and thoughtfully furnished and equipped, this little gem of a house is full of lovely touches like pretty ceramics, attractive watercolours and a small library of interesting books. We particularly appreciated the cupboard full of clean fluffy towels! And we loved the view from the balcony - especially watching the ferries arrive and depart. The whole place was spotlessly clean and sparkling. The waterfront bars and restaurants are lively in the evening but there's absolutely nothing tacky. We would certainly recommend this house.

Lovely, quiet house in local neighbourhood

mwy UK
Review Submitted: September 30, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We had a lovely week in this house. It is situated in the old part of the town, and is accessible by the 'roads' that are actually steep staircases. The house is three rooms stacked on top of eachother. There are two bedrooms; the double is on the first floor of the main house, whilst the twin room is in the basement, below the living/kitchen area and accessible by going outside, down the steps in the courtyard, and into the basement room. Both bedrooms have their own bathrooms; that in the basement being considerably bigger than that on the first floor. The first floor bedroom has the views, and lovely light. Our 3 year old was a bit nervous of sleeping in the basement room, so she ended up on the very comfortable sofabed in the living room. Had she been a bit older, or had there been two children, I can imagine the excitement of being a little bit away from the 'dreaded parents' would have been wonderfully exciting!

The house was clean and tidy when we arrived, and there were basic provisions in the fridge and cupboards. The caretaker, a wonderful Norwegian-born woman who has lived in Skopelos for over 20 years, and who spoke perfect English, was brilliant, especially on our last day, when the weather wasn't good and there was a question of where the ferry would go from at 6.30am.

We tried out as many restaurants as we could, given our budget and the poor euro-pound exchange rate. The closer ones were good if expensive; but by far the best food we had was in the restaurant recommended by the owners, up the road away from the harbour. If we'd found it earlier we would have eaten there several times. Well worth walking to, and much better value, too.

We hired a car, and travelled around the island, visiting various beaches and sites. We also tried the restaurant in Glossa that the other guests had recommended -- really lovely.

We had a lovely week, despite the weather being appalling (rain storms or clouds all week). I would highly recommend this house if you want to stay on Skopelos, you want to be away from the crowds, you want peace and quiet (our 3 year old was quite the noisiest thing in the neighbourhood) and you want the privacy and convenience of self catering. I would highly recommend the house for families, too, provided there were no children under 3 (and definitely no crawling babies -- too many stairs!).
