A substantial period house dating from the 1830's occupying 5 stories. Recently modernised and completely refurbished to a very high standard. The properties are set in a superb central location 5 minutes walk from the heart of Dartmouth, yet far enough to away not to be disturbed by hustle and bustle of the town. The main property(Southford House) benefits from 3 large bedrooms with 3 en-suite bathrooms, and has large sitting room and dining room leading onto two balconies overlooking the town and the river Dart. The flat below (48a) has two bedrooms (one with en-suite bathroom) and again has been completely refurbished throughout in a tasteful, modern style. Southford House sleeps 8 people comfortably. 48A sleeps 4 with ease. Each property has its own garden with access leading to the town below. Both properties can be rented simultaneously and have linen and towels provided. A full home management service is available in emergencies on call 24hours.

48a occupies the lower two floors of a 5 storey period house dating from 1830. It is a self contained, self catering flat which was completely refurbished and modernised in March 2009 and is now ready to let along with Southford House which occupies the 3 storeys above. Both properties can be let simultaneously for larger parties-in total the two properties sleep a total of 12 comfortably. 48A welcomes pet owners. New flooring and bathrooms throughout. It enjoys the benefit of a secluded garden with a barbecue terrace . We have resisted the temptation to pack these properties with sofa beds and futons so that guests can take advantage of the very generous space in both properties and enjoy their stay in luxury.

Dartmouth deserves its reputation as the jewel in the crown of the South Hams region. It is popular all year round with families and in particular is famed for its sailing and water sports. Dartmouth is a deepwater port and the home of the Brittania Royal Naval college. The Regatta which takes place during August each year is a huge event featuring the Red arrows. Nearby are beaches of Slapton and the award winning Blackpool sands, regularly rated one of the best beaches in the UK. This area ofSouth Devon is blessed with a mild climate and Christmas and New Year are especally popular as Dartmouth celebrates New Year in style with a huge fancy dress extravaganza that is regularly televised. The Town was featured in TVs Onedin line and looks much the same as it did two centuries ago. A stroll around Dartmouth,overlooked by Dartmouth castle, is very atmospheric with narrow,cobbled streets and 17th century timber framed buildings. Dartmouth is the prettiest harbour town in Europe.

This enables guests to park in the Mayors Avenue Car Park as well as other car parks throughout the South Hams region. The River Dart is also a 5 minute stroll away and the beautiful beaches of Slapton and Blackpool sands are ten minutes by car. River trips and the steam Railway to Paignton make this the ideal location for a family holiday at any time of year. Pets are welcome at 48A and each property enjoys its own garden. Central heating throughout. Fully equipped and modernised kitchen. Cot and High chair available in this property.

southford house is exactly as described. set in a beautiful location it is ideal for a relaxing comfortable holiday.
myself, my partner and two children recently enjoyed a wonderful stay. the house is close to all amenities as well as having easy access to routes for the surrounding areas. a lovely old home that has been carefully modernised, it is impeccably clean and well equipped and has a small garden (great with children).
highly recommended, we have friends looking forward to a trip there in the new year.

Overall the apartment 48A was very clean and tidy but I would not describe it as luxury.My comments are
1. Enrance to property is not pleasant, from road down lots of steps passing the bins on the way.
2. Kitchen had a permanent damp smell.
3. Bedroom furniture very basic.
4. The utility room/cupboard very strange.Suggest washing machine is moved to make more accessible.

Although it was clean and tidy my expectation from the description was it would be more luxurious, it was ok but i would not book again.

The booking process and key collection process was very easy.
Owner's Response: Thanks for posting your review-all feedback is positive,especially as this property is new and there are bound to be some teething problems!

We have immediately been in touch with the managing agents to ensure that the bins are put out on the road and not down the steps so that guests do not have to pass them on their way down to the property.

The whole property has recently been damp coursed , although with the heavy rains we have also had to put in a new roof so this problem has been rectified.

With regard to the bedroom furniture - it is all new and the style is fairy minimalistic. We will be adding some more furniture in the bedrooms keeping the modern effect but enhancing the comfort of the rooms.

We have also now moved the washing machine from the utility cupboard .

I am glad that you found the property clean and tidy.All the other feedback that we have received from guests is that the standard is high and modern compared to other similar properties in Dartmouth.
