Hooked on Cuxac

Our first vacation in the south of France was wonderful. Cuxac is a small village tucked into the Black Mountains, complete with a community center, pool, store, post office, boulangerie, pharmacy, and a park by the river Dure. This charming home is clean, authentically furnished and has everything one needs to completely relax; comfortable beds, fireplace, nice lighting and a large tub to soak in while looking up at the sky through the skylight. There are also several books to read; I particularly liked the ones on Carcassonne.
We walked to the boulangerie every morning for fresh bread. There’s a new boulangerie just past the river with a variety of freshly baked breads (the brown nut bread was my favorite), pastries, quiche lorraine and pizza like you’ve never tasted (my husband’s favorite).
When not relaxing in this comfortable home or strolling through the village, one can drive to the town of Carcassonne for shopping or visiting the castle. Be sure to stop at any of the local wineries along the way. There is also an equestrian center a few miles up the road if one would like to go for a ride. One day the riders walked their horses through the village, right past our door. What a fantastic sight!
If you want to drive, take a ride through the nearby villages (we particularly enjoyed Montolieu, the book village) or you could drive to the Mediterranean Sea within an hour and walk the soft sandy beaches.
I think I’ll end it here so that you can add some of your experiences and thoughts on this magical and romantic place. We didn't want to leave, but we are definitely returning next year!

A STEP BACK IN TIME.

We had a wonderful time! Of course you must appreciate the rustic,
but Old World romanticism that you will experience in this village home. The village is great...wonderful bakery for the early morning stroll to pick up the chocolat croissant. Comfortable driving distance to so many unique places.

I hope to return soon to enjoy another step back into time!!!

P.S. Don't forget to take that early evening stroll to meet many of the villagers with a friendly bonsoir.

The heart of the French countryside

Paris was exciting, but I spent most of my vacation in this old stone house in the heart of the French countryside. The place was clean and delightful.

The house itself was a French dream. The décor is authentic France, the winding staircase, the lace curtains, even the door handles. I took nearly as many pictures inside as I did outside.

The village of Cuxac is the perfect size for exploring on foot with its narrow winding streets and intriguing shops.

During the day we visited the area, including historic Carcassonne. One evening there was a 'fete' at the community center with a live band and lots of dancing! Afterward we walked up the street to enjoy a spectacular view of the Milky Way from the dark hillside.

The village clock chimes each half hour as a delightful reminder of slowly passing time, no need to rush anywhere.

I stayed on the top floor and I loved to sit in the chair by the window, reading, writing, and looking out over the mountains. I'd put on a little music, have an aperitif, and dance while dinner was cooking. Ahh… ok, think I'll go check availability again…

My Cuxac Experience

I needed to get away to some peace & quiet to relax far away from my routine as a NYer, so I stayed at the village home pictured above during December & January. I stayed for 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed my visit! Weather that time of year was mild, & the house itself is quaint, charming, & roomy enough for more than 2 people, along with beautiful views from the bedroom windows. It's a quiet neighborhood, perfect for pleasant strolls & any items you might need nearby are on hand at the local shops. Wine is made in the region as well, so there are good ones to try at the local low price. Should you want to go sightseeing, there is the lovely castle town in Carcassonne, (only about 25 minutes away by car) where "Robin Hood" with Kevin Costner was filmed, bustling with shops, restauraunts & historic events displayed. Also close by are neighboring towns where you can go & experience nightlife & shopping. A car is needed to go outside the neighborhood, but renting one shouldnt be a problem & the owner provides such resources if needed. To go to a beach in Spain is a 3 hour car drive from the house & you can see the Pyrannes mountains from the main road. The house is neat, clean, in good repair, tastefully decorated, equipped with furnishings, appliances, and a fireplace & is a lovely getaway! The friends I've recommended it to have also enjoyed it, and I am definitely planning to go back myself as soon as possible.

Genuine Provence atmosphere, inside and out. A two-lane road winding through farm fields and woods -- with the Pyrenees in the distance -- leads to a rustic village square by a brook and a narrow lane. Park near an old chapel, stroll up the lane, passing the neighbors’ kittens and flower pots, to the door of this storybook, stone-cool home. Step into the sitting room on the left after depositing vegetables in the kitchen on the right. Light a candle on the nearby dining table. Or skip the meal and climb the creaky stairs before retiring in one of the lovely bedrooms above. Even the bathtub has character. Overall, the home is comfortable and romantically quiet, save for song birds and an occasional neighbor stirring about. We forgot the city and found a piece of traditional, southern France to truly love.
