The house - 'Casa Santa Marta' - is near the centre of the old town of Villajoyosa. A plaque above the door commemorates the fact that the owner during the civil war very bravely (apparently risking her life) hid the small statue of the town's religious patron 'Santa Marta' in the house to save it from damage. Even today, when during the fiestas in the last week of July there are some processions past the house, locals stop and bow their heads in memory of this.
The church square is very close, as is the well that was the source of water if under siege - the street name 'Calle del Pozo' ('Carrer del Pou' in the regional language) means 'Well Street'. The Town Hall is currently preparing tourist access to the top of the main fortification of this old walled town (50 metres away) which will offer a panoramic view of the beach, the marina and beyond. The nearby beach and front (2 min) is also being refurbished (completion Summer '09).
There are shops and restaurants very nearby.
