This full corner house near the centre of the old town was fully redecorated in 2008 in keeping with 'Spanish old town' style (patterned floor tiles, wooden beams etc) but with 'all mod cons' and now offers: - a roof terrace terrace with sea views - a top floor consisting of a large double bedroom with en suite bathroom, a large living room and a new kitchen ideally situated to take food and drink directly to the roof terrace - a first floor consisting of a double bedroom and a spacious separate bathroom - a split-level ground floor consisting of a kitchen and a dining room - and a cellar area with washing machine etc. The property sleeps 4 comfortably and 6 easily. Tables and chairs, bedclothes, crockery etc. is provided for 6. As a corner house there are balconies with views up to the church square (plenty of fiestas and weddings) and also down to the sea. The house - 'Casa Santa Marta' - is near the centre of the old town of Villajoyosa. A plaque above the door commemorates the fact that the owner during the civil war very bravely (apparently risking her life) hid the small statue of the town's religious patron 'Santa Marta' in the house to save it from damage. Even today, when during the fiestas in the last week of July there are some processions past the house, locals stop and bow their heads in memory of this. The church square is very close, as is the well that was the source of water if under siege - the street name 'Calle del Pozo' ('Carrer del Pou' in the regional language) means 'Well Street'. The Town Hall is currently preparing tourist access to the top of the main fortification of this old walled town (50 metres away) which will offer a panoramic view of the beach, the marina and beyond. The nearby beach and front (2 min) is also being refurbished (completion Summer '09). There are shops and restaurants very nearby.

  • Easter week £500. Semana Santa, Holy week in Villajoyosa is special with nightly parades, choirs etc

    Long term renters welcome for Winter period Nov1st - end of March (excluding Easter when Easter falls in March). One month rental in Winter period same as one week rental in July/August minimum rental 2 months.
  • Half term week last week in October and May £400 per week.
    For rentals covering Christmas and/or New Year, rates as per 'October' period.
  • Prices are based on 4 people using the house. A supplement will be charged for extra people prices vary according to the season. Pets may be charged £50 at owner's discretion (because of extra cleaning costs).

  • The top floor bathroom, which is en suite, has been finished to a high standard: a height-adjustable large fixed head shower (but also with hand-held head option) has its water thermostatically controlled and supplied by a 50 litre electric heater not shared with the other bathroom. The washbasin has a 'waterfall' style mixer tap - turn it on slowly, it's more powerful than it needs to be! The first floor bathroom has both a free-standing large shower (1M2) and also a bath with a second shower head. There's also a bidet. Both bathrooms have large well-lit mirrors.

  • The top floor bedroom has an en suite bathroom, a two-tier built-in wardrobe and is very spacious (28 M2). The 'extra large double bed' is in fact a twin pair of full size single beds (same height/length/mattresses) joined together. They can be separated and used as 2 single beds, and there are bedclothes for both options. The first floor bedroom is next to the first floor bathroom, which is effectively a private bathroom when 4 sleep in the house. It has a normal double bed. An additional 2 single beds are normally stored in the cellar area, but by prior arrangement one or both can be added to either bedroom (or one to each!). The alternative way to sleep 6 is to use one of the sofa beds in the top floor living room.

Notes: We ourselves have a dog - so we'll most probably accept pets, but it must be discussed and agreed beforehand. And we live in Valencia - an hour and a half away - and speak English and Spanish (and French and some German) and so can normally get things sorted out quickly if anything should go wrong! We are interested in discussing longer term rentals, such as e.g. over the winter period.
