Champernhayes is set on a gentle southern slope, overlooking an almost unpopulated undulating valley, with views to the sea at Charmouth in the distance. Designated an area of outstanding natural beauty within the UK’s only natural World Heritage Site, this coastline is renowned for its fascinating geology and fossils – known locally as the ‘Jurassic Coastline’. The smaller, single-storey cottages at Champernhayes have been created from the conversion of the original farmhouse buildings, which date back to 1482. These cottages, grouped around a central courtyard, have been awarded 5 stars under the Visit Britain National Quality Assurance Scheme, their highest grade. The traditional country-style kitchens are open plan, with a dining area, and all have dishwashers and washer-dryers in addition to the usual cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer etc. Most bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms, and you will find you beds already made, with towels provided.

The Barn is a superb barn conversion, and is ideal for a family/group get-together. The Barn sleeps up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms: - two doubles and one twin bedroom, all with their own en-suite bathrooms on the first floor, and a further double and twin bedroom sharing a bathroom on the ground floor. The first floor lounge with log burner has lovely country views looking down to the sea at Charmouth on the horizon, and on the ground floor is the dining hall and adjacent farmhouse kitchen with 4 oven aga. The downstairs' twin bedroom is 7 metres square (21') and will accommodate a further 2 single beds if required bringing the bed spaces available up to 12. Outside, there are stunning views across the valley from the private south and south westerly facing gardens, complete with hardwood garden furniture (and a gas barbecue, May to September).

Lyme Regis is a narrow tangle of streets that tumble down to its 13th Century Cobb harbour, where a cloaked Meryl Streep famously stood in the film ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ adapted from the novel by local author, John Fowles. It is an ancient town with a varied history stretching back to the 8th century. It was from here that ships sailed to meet the Spanish Armada and the Duke of Monmouth landed in 1685. Today Lyme Regis offers fun for all the family with its sheltered beaches, bustling harbour, shops, galleries and many attractions. Why not enjoy the view of Golden Cap, the highest point on the South coast at 626 feet. It gets its name from the top layers of golden sandstone, which glow, in the sunshine. The stretch of coast between Charmouth and Lyme Regis forms the ‘Jurassic Coast’ where fossils dating back 185 million years can be found. Visit the Chamouth Heritage Coast Centre where you can find out how to hunt for and identify fossils ..and discover the Mary Anning story.
