This spacious house was part of the outbuildings of the Abbey of St Polycarpe dating back to the 8th century. It is situated in the heart of a medieval village, on a small road leading to the Corbières, 30mn South of Carcassonne. It has been entirely renovated retaining all the original medieval features: stone arcade, stone sink and walls. It is delightfully cool in summer due to the thickness of the walls. Large kitchen opening onto the garden, sitting room also opening onto the garden and separated from dining room by a stone arcade.The House, sleeps 12, is a family house with 2 acres of private enclosed & shaded garden. It has the use of a beautiful 15x8 m pool with paddling pool, solar shower and play area. The pool is 200 yards away & shared with 4 more gites. There are bakers, cafes, supermarkets & various villages/small towns with restaurants within a 10min drive.

The house is situated in the medieval village of St Polycarpe, 10 mn from Limoux and 30 mn from the historic City of Carcassonne, 1h 15 mn from Toulouse, 1 h from the seaside and 1h 30mn from the skiing resorts. All amenities in Limoux, a charming and picturesque town with a large square surrounded with arcades where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in the numerous cafés and restaurants. Limoux is famous for its sparkling wine and its Carnival, the longest in the world. Cultural Activities: Visite of the City of Carcassonne, magnificent walled city with double fortifications and 52 towers. Amazing fireworks spectacle on July 14th, Carcassonne Cultural Festival in July and medieval spectacles in August. Visit of the abbeys of Fontfroide and St Hilaire and the ancient cathar castles. Many interesting museums and even one about Dinosaurs for the younger ones.Sporting activities: canoeing and water sports, walking and cycling, golf, fishing, swimming, adventure park, skiing.
