There is sailing nearby in Chichester Harbour from Itchenor, Chichester Yacht Basin and Dell Quay with internationally famous windsurfing at W. Wittering. There are clean sandy beaches at Bracklesham (boat launch ramp) and the Witterings.
Sand sand, shingle and seafood at Selsey. There are lovely houses and gardens to look at in the area plus the fascinating remains of the Roman villa at Fishbourne.
Chichester is a mellow market town and cathedral city with good shopping and a renowned Festival Theatre.
There is a new multiplex cinema, a bowling alley and a good sports complex with large indoor pool. A short distance to the North of the town is The Weald and Downland Open-air Museum. Goodwood (horses, cars and golf) and Fontwell (horses) are close. Portsmouth (with more good shops and cinemas, naval museums and ferries to France and the Isle of Wight) is only 30 minutes away by car, Brighton less than an hour.
