Aeolian Islands holiday villa: Salina

This sunny estate is on the second largest of the Aeolian Islands, the volcanic island of Salina. Behind it stands the Dei Porri mountain, in front of it the two volcanic islands of Alicudi and Filicudi rise above the horizon. The house is surrounded by impressive flora and ocean scenery in a region famed for its culinary delights such as capers and Veltliner wines (including the dessert wine known as the 'nectar of the gods'). The estate consists of two recently renovated adjacent complexes. The interior decoration, featuring exposed ceiling beams, wooden furniture from the region, local blue tiling and wrought iron, is kept deliberately simple and rural. In fact, guests will probably spend most of their time on the beautiful covered sun terraces, enjoying the simple but substantial country life, the breathtaking view of the volcanic mountains and the azure blue sea. Or perhaps relaxing by the old olive tree, the centrepiece of the courtyard with an open fireplace.
