Stay with Jack & Julie in the Annexe of their traditional Andalucian cavehouse in the village of Freila and you will discover tranquil lakeside woods and beaches that would take years to find without their local knowledge. Amongst the many cavehouses perched on the rocky hillside outskirts of the village, you overlook the hills & valleys around Lake Negratin, next door to the ancient Moorish castle with the Sierra Nevada Mountains looming in the distance. Take advantage of Jack & Julie’s enthusiasm and local knowledge and explore the lake on his boat, sample the best tapas at the friendliest bars, bbq on the terrace and experience rural Andalucia as most only dream about. The Annexe, along with the rest of the cavehouse, has been restored to a very high standard with all the home comforts in a traditional Spanish style. The shared entrance and terrace is the perfect party spot for barbeques and sampling superb local foods & wines, yet very secluded for sunbathing, reading or resting in the shade – you will find your hosts are very both willing to share their company & local knowledge and give you space & privacy if that’s what you feel – we couldn’t get enough of their affable Cornish humour and love of Andalucian life! From booking our stay to catching our flights home, their company, help and commitment to making our stay in Freila so much fun could not have been better. With excellent emailed directions from Malaga, we drove up through the Sierra Nevada and arrived at this picturesque Spanish village with stunning views and a welcoming hamper of local food & wine. Local shops and tapas bars are within a couple of minutes walk and nestled among the hills around the lake are many places to visit, including thermal baths, lakeside restaurants, Moorish ruins and unspoilt countryside. The clear blue expanse of lake Negratin, with the intricate patterns of the surrounding sandstone hills perfectly reflected in the still of the morning is a sight to behold. With the iridescent flash of Beecatcher birds to make lasting memories, Freila is a dream rural holiday destination for those looking for an authentic Spanish experience.
