Set in the heart of the Parc Naturel des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin, Les Gites Champetres are located on the edge of the quiet village of Sainteny which is less than one hour from the port of Cherbourg and city of Caen. Les Gites Champetres provide an excellent touring base to visit historic towns, the Normandy landing beaches and other places of interest. Ideal for couples or families with young children and suitable for use throughout the year. Accommodation: Les Gîtes Champêtres comprise of two 2 properties – 4 bedroom ‘ Chestnut Cottage ‘ and 4 bedroom ‘Walnut Cottage’, and are set within the 2 acre grounds of the owners home. A friendly but discreet service is assured.

Our nearest town is historic Carentan which is 10 km from Sainteny with several supermarkets, banks, shops, cinema, railway station (route to Paris) and a popular market held every Monday. Les Gites Champetres has easy access to numerous places of interest such as the Normandy Landing Beaches , Bayeux with its famous Tapestry, the seaside town of Granville and a little further afield the magnificent Le Mont St. Michel. The city of Caen is only 1 hour away and has excellent shopping facilities as well as other historic places to visit. Paris is only a two hour train ride away, making an interesting day out. From Football to Fishing, Golf to Cycling, most, if not all sports activities are available within a short drive from the Gites.

There is ample garden furniture and a large barbecue, and for children there are swings, slides, sandpits, paddling pools, a trampoline and other outdoor toys available – football, badminton, boules etc Bed linen, towels etc are included Travel Cots, highchairs and stair gates are available free of charge on request. The property is approached by a separate driveway with ample enclosed parking. The gardens are fully enclosed and gated.

Our village of Sainteny has great facilities all within a few minutes walk. At the centre of the village is the Bar / Tabac, Pharmacy (with English speaking pharmacists) and the beautiful St Pierre Church. At the top of the village we have the Boulangerie / Patisserie, Boucherie / Charcuterie, Village Shop (including La Poste facilities), Restaurant / Bar, Hairdressers, Garage and a new Doctors surgery - all within walking distance from your accommodation.

This is an excellent Gite in a great location.

The property is very well equipped , in lovely gardens.

The owners are very helpful.

This is the best place we have found in Normandy and would certainly stay again

Location - Well positioned for access to D-Day sites of interest. About 30 mins to Bayeux and just over an hour to Mont St. Michel. The village setting is rural, quiet and very picturesque. A car is essential.

Accommodation - Modern conversion of characterful building. Spacious, clean, well appointed, good facilities, very comfortable.

Hosts - Absolutely fantastic. Extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly and welcoming.

Summary - Next time we come to Normandy we will be staying here again. There's no point in considering anywhere else. Highly recommended.

We spent one week at the Gites Champetres. The owners were very helpful and we were very happy with the gite. We were a 5 adults and 2 children. The gite was very spacious and had a great outdoor space for the children. There was a nice welcome pack on arrival which included biscuits, coffee, wine and cider. The owners also offered a shopping service. They were very helpful without being intrusive. The gite was well-equipped and conveniently located for visitng the D-Day beaches, Mont St Michel and the Bayeux tapestry and was also within walking distance of a boulangerie. Only downsides were that the local restaurant was closed for annual holidays when were were there and the church bells rang out for 5 minutes continuously at 7.00 am every morning. Neither of these prevented us from having a very enjoyable week. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to explore this charming area of Normandy.
