In one of the sunniest regions of France, our beautiful new apartment is the perfect base for a great holiday in Cavalaire-sur-Mer and the Gulf of St. Tropez. The apartment is part of Cap Marine, a small new development with a shared swimming pool. The development is situated on the edge of a natural conservation area and is just a 10 minute walk from the beach, marina and resort and there are tennis courts nearby. It is just 45 minutes drive from the airport in Hyères (40km) and less than 2 hours from Nice (70 km). We have furnished and equipped our spacious apartment to a high standard to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. It has air-conditioning for the summer and heating for the winter. The large balcony area looks-out onto eucalyptus trees which provide welcome shade from the heat of the day - a perfect place to enjoy the local rosé after a hot day at the beach!

Cavalaire-sur-Mer is a sought-after location for family holidays and as a base for exploring the Mediterranean region. Situated just to the south of St. Tropez, there are 3 kms of white sandy beaches in a sheltered, shallow bay ideal for young children. The attractive marina, with over 1000 moorings, gives it a touch of class but without the hustle and bustle of the larger Mediterranean resorts. Although quieter than the larger Cote d'Azur resorts, there are still plenty of things to do. Catch the sightseeing train at the port as a great way to get your bearings. The main streets have several pavement cafes and restaurants and there is a busy programme of concerts and shows. Every Wednesday, a large market held on place Jean Moulin sells regional produce including honey, olives, olive oil, locally made saucisson and local rosé wine. Year round sunshine and the Pradels mountains, lying just behind the town, complete the setting for a perfect holiday.

Notes: The apartment is ideal for family holidays and a high chair and travel cot are available. It is situated on the first floor on the corner of 'Batiment C'. Easy access for push chairs and people with disabilities is provided by a lift in the common entrance hall. The balcony looks onto eucalyptus trees and is not overlooked. The communal swimming pool is situated between Batiments A and B within the complex - just a minute away. There are two car parking spaces in a secure parking area at the front on the building. Access is by an electronic key fob available in the apartment. Cap Marine is situated in a quiet residential area just above the resort of Cavalaire. There is a camping site close by (Camping Pinede). A Carrefour supermarket is just a few minutes walk into Cavalaire. Several smaller mini markets, boulangeries, pattisseries and boucheries are also within a few minutes walk. There are two internet cafes in the resort.

More about Cavalaire and the Corniche des Maures: Cavalaire is situated on a stretch of the Mediterranean coast that receives more sunshine than anywhere else in France -- more than 3000 hours a year! It has a large marina and plenty of water sports including scuba diving, sailing, deep sea fishing and water skiing. The beaches are sandy and glitter from the mica crystals in the sand. There are also local tennis courts and a casino. The area has tall dark pines, oaks and eucalyptus trees. There is a secluded beach and lovely coastal walks along the famous Corniche des Maures. The beach and paths are just 10 minutes walk from the apartment.

The Gulf de St. Tropez and the Iles d'Or: Several larger, well-known beach resorts are close-by and can be reached easily by local bus. These include St Tropez (17km), Ste Maxime (21km) and Le Lavandou (20km). The recently-developed marina towns of Port-Grimaud (15km) and Cogolin (16km) are now major tourist destinations. Catch the ferry from Cavalaire to visit the famous 'îles d'Or': the Levant islands, Porquerolles and Port Cros. These small islands are protected National Parks which have something for everyone: sandy beaches, signed paths and trails, extraordinarily clear waters with a signposted underwater 'nature' trail and ancient forts.

The Var region: The Var region is famous for its vineyards and many within easy reach of Cavalaire are open to visitors. Take note of those that you would like to visit as you pass them on the roads into Cavalaire! Exploring inland, the hills, valleys, vineyards and pine forests of the Alpes de Haute Provence provides varied and fascinating destinations. Visiting the old villages perched high in the mountains are a great way to cool down on a summer evening. The extensive forests in the region are popular with walkers especially the Gorges du Verdon, Artignosc and Artigues. The many lakes, rivers and waterfalls are great for swimming, canoeing and fishing.

Nice, quiet holiday at the beach

The property description is fully accurate and the owner is one of the best when it comes to answering questions promptly. The apartment is in a quiet complex away from the busier parts of town, but still just a very quick drive away from the sea.

We were there in the off season so some of the nearby attractions (like Azur Park) were closed. Call the places you want to visit ahead of time to be sure they're operating.

Our favorite beaches were in Cavaliere (not to be confused with Cavalaire-sur-Mer). Plenty of parking, nice sand, gentle waves for our toddler and some restaurants if you get hungry.

It's true that the Cap Marine complex is not labelled, so keep a mental image of it in mind based on the exterior photos on this site and you'll recognize it when you see it. The building you'll be staying in is the one that's closest to the road you'll be on when you first approach the complex.

We had a week in this apartment in August and were very impressed with the quality and the attention to detail that the owner has put into making your stay as comfortable as possible. For example there was a stack of the latest dvds to watch and all the kitchen equipment that you could possibly need. The pool area is enclosed so ideal if you have small children and a small area for toddlers to paddle in. We went to the beach one day but our children loved being at the pool so we spent the remaining days there. The apartment is clean and well-maintained and exactly as described.

The owner was extremely helpful before we went. The property is called Cap Marine, but this is not currently on the outside of the apartment so initially we went past the building before we realised where it was, but it didn't take long to find.

Cavalaire is full of restaurants - our favourite was La Pizzaiole (not sure how it's spelt). The pizzas, pastas and salads are excellent. The place to avoid is the pick and mix sweet shop. I only got a few sweets and was charged £4.00! We really enjoyed walking around the town, there are an abundance of bakeries and cake shops and the supermarket is only 10 minutes walk away.

We did the Promenade under the Sea 'Seascope', but I wouldn't recommend this, it's quite expensive and not much to see. The thing our children loved was Azur Park near St Tropez. You can buy a Baby Pass for 10 euro and they get to do about 15 different rides. Our five year old declared 'it's the best night of my life'.

The location of the apartment is ideal - lovely beaches closeby, Cavalaire is full of eating places and only 20 or so minutes to St Tropez.

Great Holiday Apartment in Cavaliare

This apartment was great - extremely well appointed and equipped for our holiday needs.

The quality of furnishing was better than expected for a "holiday apartment" and made us feel right at home.

The apartment complex is a 10 minute walk from the port which means you need a car for a quick dash to the local boulangerie - but don't let that put you off. There is a big supermarket within 5 - 8 minutes walk and you're close to the main road for excursions to the many towns and villages to the west of Cavalaire.

Cavalaire is nice and self contained - you can spend a few nice evenings sampling some good food (especially at Le Comptoir at the port) and watching boules being played.

Cavalaire is a great staging point for day trips - our personal favourite was to a beach called the Grand Blue Plage about 10 minutes drive west just past Rayol. This is a fabulous cove with a small cafe lined with loungers but not too busy with other tourists or people selling standard beach "junk" which was the case in St Tropez.

We packed up everyday from our apartment with a home made picnic which we stored in a fabulous picnic pack supplied by the owners.

We really enjoyed the trip - the apartment was clean, great value and met all our needs. We'd happily recommend it.
