Comfort and tranquillity near lovely beaches

Warm welcome from the owner, who picked us up from the port and showed us round the house. As advertised, this was a modern house on three levels, with a terrace on each one. The top terrace, in particular, offered a beautiful view of the sea and Paros, with wonderful sunsets. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable and the bathrooms clean and modern. The whole house was spotlessly clean. On arrival, the owner informed us that earlier guests had broken the washing machine, so we had to do without. The owner did, however, show us where the local laundry was and offered to drop off and pick up for us any laundry we needed doing. As it happened, we didn't require this, but the offer was there and appreciated. Otherwise, all the amenities advertised were available. The doors and windows of the house are all fitted with mosquito screens, as the area does apparently have a mosquito problem. During our stay, however, none got into the house and our nights were mosquito-free. Long periods out on the terraces might have proved more bothersome, perhaps, but this is a problem one often encounters near water in the Mediterranean in general. We did not hire a vehicle for this week, having done enough driving and touring during our stay on another island. We were drawn to this property because of its comfort and its proximity to beaches (easy walking distance - 10 to 20 mins for some of the most beautiful beaches and clean, turquoise waters in the Cyclades). Some of the beaches have loungers and parasols, though others are just as nature intended and quite stunning. The beaches are so long, you can always find a quiet spot if you wish, or, if you prefer, you can remain within easy striking distance of one of the many good tavernas dotted all along the beach road. Practical bus service about 5 minutes from the house to Naxos town. Buses run till midnight in September and taxis are also affordable as the house is only about 8 km from the town centre. Naxos town, particularly the old kastro district, is well worth visiting and climbing up through the winding streets for a more historical atmosphere than that offered on the waterfront. All in all, this property was excellent value for money, clean, comfortable and ideally located for those looking to unwind in a very pretty spot which, though quiet, offers most of the essentials if you do not wish to explore any further (though the island has a great deal to offer in addition to its beaches).
