Set on a working farm in the Rother valley within the South Downs National Park, the Cart Shed has uninterrupted views of the Downs, so it is the ideal place to get away from it all, stepping straight into perfect walking, cycling or riding countryside. Farm centrally sited at the end of a long scenic drive, it is the most southerly farm building, enjoying its own separate well fenced garden, with patio and furniture to enjoy the views in complete privacy. The VisitBritain 4 star rated house includes a lounge/dining room containing the sofabed and an extra settee, plus double doors onto the South patio; a well fitted kitchen, with a breakfast area, is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer; a kingsize double bedroom is furnished with tasteful antique pine furniture; a fresh white bathroom contains a bath with shower, a toilet, tumble dryer and airing cupboard. The glass panelled entrance has a large coat and clothes cupboard with a handy boot rack for walkers.

5 minutes south of Petworth, the property is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with Midhurst 7 miles to the west. Chichester's cathedral city with its Festival theatre, market, shopping and leisure centre is 20 minutes away. Goodwood racecourse and motor racing circuit is 15 minutes away, with Cowdray polo at Midhurst. Nearby Petworth House, Uppark, Goodwood House and Arundel Castle are open to be visited from April -October. The Weald and Downland Museum, Fisher's Farm, Chichester Harbour and Portsmouth, with its naval attractions of the Victory, the Mary Rose and HMS Alliance, are great days out. There are numerous beaches to explore within 25 minutes and endless miles of footpaths, nature trails and areas of special scientific interest. The Isle of Wight provides an excellent and feasible day out using Portsmouth's ferry. Brighton's Royal Pavilion, pier and shopping centre are 50 minutes away. Local pub 1 mile, good restaurants within 2-10 miles, we hold many local brochures.

  • Bookings are secured with a 50% deposit and the remaining balance is due 8 weeks before your stay. After this stage, monies are not refundable, so we strongly advise you to take out a cancellation policy, so that you do not lose money, should some unforeseen event occur. Saturday is normally changeover day and check out is by 10am on your day of departure. Check in is at 4pm onwards. Special rates apply for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Glorious Goodwood horse racing and the Goodwood Revival. As the Festival and the Revival commence on a Friday those days are priced differently than the norm being £140/night.

  • A sparkling white bathroom suite is surrounded by attractive tiled areas edged with delicate border tiles. The bath has an overhead shower enclosed by a shower curtain. There is a pedestal basin and a bathroom seat / box. A tumble dryer is available, as well as an airing cupboard. An extractor fan is fitted. The window has a voile curtain for privacy. The floor is newly laid and is a wood patterned cushion flooring.

The curtains, bed linen and bedspread are matching. There are dressing gown hooks on the back of the door.

Notes: Our property is best suited to 1-2 smaller children who could use the cot provided or use the sofabed. A high chair is available and expected to be used for toddlers, in order to retain the high standard of cleanliness within the Cart Shed. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times around the farm for safety reasons and they may not play on the bales as this is most dangerous. Dogs must be kept on their leads around the farm buildings as we have a working cat pack, who do an excellent job and do not appreciate being chased! Dogs are charged at £20/week for each dog and should not be left unattended during their stay. We require that all dogs should be kept off the furniture and will provide throws to protect our linen sofas and give you peace of mind, whilst re-assuring our non dog owning guests, who may have allergies.

Fantastic Accommodation!

We have two young children and we were looking for somewhere quiet and luxurious to base ourselves that was central to lots of activity days. This was perfect! The accommodation is of the highest quality and the reception and service we received were impeccable.

We had a brilliant time and recommend this place without hesitation. There is so much to do in the local area, from Goodwood, to farm parks, to Portsmouth and Brighton which are comfortable drives, the list is endless. We will definitely be back and will stay here again.

The accommodation has recently been redecorated to a very high standard and has all the mod-cons you could hope for. Beautiful gardens with stunning uninterrupted views onto the South Downs. It has a very spacious interior with a real touch of class.

Most of all is the personal touch that the Gadd's add. Truly a warm inviting and wonderful family! From our whole family we thank you for a wonderful stay, we all have very fond memories.
Owner's Response: Our farm and its location has so much to offer holiday-makers, as this family has so generously confirmed. They made great use of the setting in which they found themselves and watched the many farm activities that were just the normal routine at the time they visited. They made great use of the information pack that we provide, sampling the award winning Fishers Farm Park at Wisborough Green, which is always a tremendous treat for families. The direct access to footpaths that lead to breathtaking spots like Barlavington Down, Graffham, Sutton, Woolbeding, Petworth Park and the Trundle from the Seven Points car park, would give any visitor a free sample of the tremendous beauty of this area and the adventures to be experienced there. With the cities of Chichester, Portsmouth, and Brighton on our doorstep, the museums, displays and sights to visit multiply. Using our good local knowledge of walks and beauty spots, together with the many brochures we supply, can help to make your stay as exciting or relaxing as you choose. Uppark, Stansted Park, Goodwood House, Arundel Castle, Cowdray Ruins and Petworth House are all open to the public and are within easy reach of our property. Returning to the Cart Shed accommodation then gives you a high standard of facilities, in a peaceful and relaxing setting, to turn yourself around for your next day's activities. We also have information on good local pubs, restaurants or take-aways, including the location of your nearest banks, chemists and grocery stores. We also provide a "What's On" each week in the immediate district, so that hopefully, you have a good all round knowledge of where to access whatever you need locally. We sincerely hope that these extras will assist you to meet your holiday expectations completely.

Dog Owners Paradise

If you love walking and the countryside this provides the base for the perfect holiday. Once you have arrived you do not really need a car. Walk out of the front door straight onto well marked public footpaths taking you through woodland, heathland, downland.......
Village shop is 20 minutes walk through woods and fields. it is dog freindly and serves great coffee.
The local White Horse pub is only another 5 minutes further, also dog friendly, serves very good local food.
The Cart Shed has a lovely securly fenced garden for you and your dog to enjoy. Cannot recommend it highly enough - perfect
Owner's Response: This reviewer has returned on other occasions since this initial visit, because there is so much to explore and visit in the area. The totally secluded location is hard to beat and the accommodation generally surpasses visitors' expectations. It is perfect territory for dog walking and these guests put this to good use, whilst others enjoy walking on their own or being in close proximity to the numerous attractions within the district. We try to meet the needs of each set of our guests and can offer storage for bikers and stabling for horses as well.
