The mouth of the Helford River can be seen as you approach the hamlet of Tregarne, reminding you just how close you are to the coast - Porthallow Cove is a short walk across the fields and Helford is three miles away. For those in search of peace, look no further than The Withy, where you can relax on the terrace or lounge on the lawn with a novel. This delightful annexe, attached to the Owners' home, is accessed by a porch opening into the sumptuously furnished bedroom. From here, a step up then down leads through a hall into the kitchen/diner and the shower-room, also on the ground floor. The cosy first floor sitting-room has a television and warming wood-burner to add to your comfort. Decorated with style and flair, a tasteful mix of old and new, in keeping with an era of days gone by. The Withy also benefits from broadband allowing guests to stay in touch. Homemade bread available to purchase. For the more adventurous, why not learn how to make artisan bread on the premises.

The Withy is located in the peaceful and tranquil hamlet of Tregarne, ideally situated to explore the Lizard peninsula and West Cornwall. There is wonderful walking with the coastal path about a mile away. From the door you can walk to Porthallow, Gillan, Helford & St. Anthony. The coastline is dramatic which varies between rugged coves, sandy beaches, peaceful creeks & sailing waters of the Helford River, made famous by Daphne du Maurier. There are many glorious gardens including Trebah, some of them National Trust such as Glendurgan, the Seal Sanctuary, Goonhilly Earth Station, picturesque villages of Helford, Coverack, Cadgwith, Mullion and many more. The spectacular Kynance Cove is a must to visit. Lizard Point is the most southerly point of England and the lighthouse has recently re-opened for visitors. The major towns of Helston, Porthleven & Falmouth are all within easy reaching distance. There are many nice pubs and restaurants wherever you happen to be.

Homemade artisan bread & Introductory Bread Course: The owner runs a small artisan bakery from a studio kitchen at the farmhouse. Fresh bread is baked most days and is complimentary. Come and learn how to make bread the traditional way by participating in a one day Introductory Bread Course which teaches you all the basics required to make delicious bread. You will never buy a loaf from the supermarket again once you have made this bread yourself! The course costs £45 per person and includes a light lunch (minimum 2 people).

The Withy is superb. Small, but perfectly formed and very cosy. The owners have thought of everything. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped (including Smeg fridge!), the bedroom is comfortable and attractively decorated, and the living area has a wood burning stove which would be fantastic on colder evenings.

The hamlet itself is tiny and peaceful, and the surrounding area is beautiful. It’s remote enough to feel like you’ve escaped, but close enough to centres like Helford, St Keverne and Lizard not to feel totally cut off. Great walking, lovely beaches and far more to see and do than you could ever manage in a week.

The owners are very welcoming – happy to talk when you want to, and to give you space when you don’t. You may even get to taste their lovely homemade bread (or learn how to bake it.)

The fact that the kitchen is so well equipped and that there’s wireless internet makes this a great place to stay – peaceful and remote enough to feel you’re living a rural dream without having to sacrifice the conveniences of modern life. We could have stayed for weeks.
