Villa Carmen del Rosal is a centenary Villa on the edge of one of the most beautiful mountain villages in the Madrid area, Miraflores de la Sierra. It has a private entrance, terrace with beautiful views, secluded garden with roses and lilas and a salt water swimming pool. Villa Carmen del Rosal is the choice for those that are looking for a romantic and characterful holiday home... The stone walls, wooden beams, high windows, fire place... its the perfect place to relax both in summer and winter. Also great location for visits to Madrid (40 minutes) and day trips to El Escorial, Segovia, Toledo, Salamanca, and Avila. Just a five minute walk from the shops, cafes and many excellent restaurants of Miraflores. Situated along one of the ancient 'via pecuarias', nowadays walking routes, its also an excellent place for horseback riding, hiking, mountain climbing and biking.

Villa Carmen is located in the Guadarrama Mountain National Park, a unique mountain range of central Spain. Great for countryside walks and mountain air. Also a perfect location for visits to Madrid. Just a 35 minutes drive away. A frequent bus service will also get you to Madrid. Nearby, across the Morcuera mountain pass, you find the 14th century El Paular Benedictine Monastery and the Royal Palace of San Ildefonso, a former summer retreat for Spanish kings, famous for its beautiful gardens. Other cultural and historic sites, El Escorial, Toledo, Segovia, Avila are just an hour drive away. The Valdesqui and Navacerrada ski resorts are located at about a 30 minutes. Cross country skiing and sledding can be done just 10 minutes away. A five minute walk takes you to the centre of the village, with outdoor cafes, and all kinds of shops - groceries, pharmacies, bakeries, butcher, fishmonger, etc. most of them open on Sundays.

  • There are 3 lovely bedrooms all with en suite bathroom. Sleeping of 6 - 8 people. Both 'Las Lila' and 'El Rosal' are on the back side of the house, in the shade of the old chestnut trees and with views, high up, of the Morcuera mountain pass. The 'La Parra' bedroom is on the front side of the house, looking out on the terrace and garden and with distant view of the San Pedro mountain peak. All beds are of very good quality and 2 metres long. The old 80 cm thick walls will keep the temperature of the house even in the warm summer days pleasant and cool. This in combination with the silence and peacefulness of the location, is guarantee enough for a good night of sleep.

Festivities and events: Summer festivals: Most of the surrounding villages celebrate their yearly festivities in the summer months. You will enjoy the music and good food in these very authentic 'castillian' celebrations... on the 15th of August the Virgen de la Asunción is celebrated. Other celebrations are San Blas on the 2nd and 3rd of February. San Isidro on the 15th of May. San Juan on the 23rd of June. Every saturday morning a antique market is held on the square next to the plaza de torros.

Skiing: The surrounding Guadarrama Mountains has peaks up to 2.450 meters high. In winter there are routes for cross country skiing like the 'cuerda larga' which will take you from the Morcuera to the Navacerrada mountain pass. On your left a wonderful view with in the distance the skyline of Madrid. On the right the overwhelming nature of the Lozoya valley... Some smaller nearby ski-resorts also offer the possibility of down hill skiing. The biggest 'Valdesqui' has some 30 km of ski-slopes...

Eating out: One of the many wonderful things of the inlands of Spain, is that you can still have a fantastic lunch or dinner for a very reasonable price. From Monday till Friday most restaurants offer a 3 course lunch, including drinks, for less than 10 Euros. In Miraflores and in the many nearby villages, you will find plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy one of the typical plates of the region. Piglet from Segovia, so tender you can cut it with the edge of your plate, or the roasted lamb from Pedraza, 'patatas a lo pobre' (poor man's potatoes) with some plain salad and red wine from the Ribera del Duero... delicious...
