Situated just 28 miles south of Alicante airport and 20 miles north of Murcia airport, Torrevieja, which derives its name from the Old Tower, is still essentially a fishing community whose port houses one of Spains largest fishing fleets. Boat trips to the Island of Tabarca and short trips along the coast are available from the Marina. Torrevieja also has large salt lagoons with a wealth of bird life and is also one of the oldest and most important salt producing centres in Europe. This old town with its attractive marina and port has a warm welcoming ambiance and will surely appeal to those who look for a relaxing pace of life in the true Spanish style. Shops, markets, fun-fair, bars and restaurants are available in plenty and cater for all tastes and pockets. There is a daily Craft market open until late evening down by the Marina. The Aquopolis aqua park is a great day out for the whole family and is open from June - September. There is something for everyone and and for all ages.
